Splitting ten's

Putting all of the maths to one side for a moment, there's the pure and simple risk factor to consider. If playing splitting tens at TC+4 and +5 respectively, it'll be done with a max bet out. If you play a $10 table, and spread 1-16 would you really break up a hand of 20 with $160.00 on the felt? Same for doubling on soft 20. Could be an expensive decision. And that's without considering that doing so may start alarm bells ringing.

I think this is more about playing style and comfortable levels of risk than just applying the calcs. I've never yet done it, but am looking forward to the first time I do ! ! ! !

Once saw a guy splitting his ten's more than half the time when he got one,people are avoiding that table like a #*&*(!:laugh:

Personally I won't do it UNLESS i am planning not to return to that casino.

Sorry that you feel that way....better not ever take Insurance either.

Sim results show the risk/reward as being marginal and the heat it attracts is not worth the play. Insurance does not attract even half the heat unless your consistantly correct which doesn't happen often at TC>3 or 3.3.

I still wouldn't split the tens before i was leaving either. PB's have long term memory by way of a little black book.

I know your correct, but the house doesnt ask you if you want to split your tens. They ask you if you want to take insurance, then it's "insurance closed". Sometimes I buy it, and other times I tell the dealer she doesn't have it this time, maybe I'll try again later.

Even ploppies will insure a good hand, or one they plan on splitting. At least the ones I play with.

In tournament play, it's a different game.
