Former NBA star Charles Barkley,
now a broadcast analyst for TNT,
has estimated his total gambling
losses at $10 million.


Wynn Las Vegas filed a lawsuit in District Court on Wednesday to force former National Basketball Association star Charles Barkley to pay back $400,000 in gambling markers the casino alleges it extended him last year.

The casino also persuaded the Clark County district attorney’s bad check unit to open a criminal investigation. The unit has authority under state law to investigate gambling debts in the same manner as bad checks.

Yeah, that would really hurt the Wynn - wonder whereelse a $10MM self-admitted gambling addict loser had "good luck". Must be the Wynn.

Wonder if ESPN has some policy against employees betting on sports. Not that I know if he bet on sports or not.

Just in case "Hey Kobe, shave a few points" and I'll split my bet with you while talking up the game the other way.

I think the Wynn, if you ever win $400K, should just offer to pay you $300K 6 months later with no interest and always let you come back since you always pay 100% of your losses but only collect 75% of your wins 6 months later.

What's your problem with what the Wynn is doing? Much more shameful is the Stratosphere. Not that they'll miss me lol, and I liked playing there, but I never will set foot in there again.

I like the Wynn, in that its controlled by an individual, unlike the corporate stooges that operate most of the other houses.

I dont like the Wynn because of the tip splitting fiasco.

the guys at the Wynn must have contacted Barkley numerous times about paying up, and more than likely threatened to go public with the debt. I was thinking there might be a reason why he wasnt making good. if there is any dispute, the Wynn could pay dearly in patronage and bad publicity if loudmouth Charles opens up about it.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with "Sir Charles". I imagine, basically, he's just not very "liquid" these days and doesn't have $400K of small change lying around anymore. Might have to sell some assets or something.

Guess all addictions are a terrible thing. Guess one man's $10K is another man's $10000K. On the other hand guess even I'd raise my min bet if I had $10MM to blow and I'm sure I wouldn't stop gambling just because I enjoy it even though any winnings would basically be irrelevant and I could only expect losses.

Heck, my juices begin to flow when I bet $30 at a $3 table lol.

I admitted my problem many years ago and have been going to Sexaholics Anonymous regularly ever since.

The United States government is now on RED Alert as Hall of Fame Basketball Player and current TNT Analyst Charles Barkley is running for Mayor for the great historic town of Leeds, Ala.
Leeds, Alabama? I'm pretty sure the only thing Leeds, Alabama is famous for is...oh yeah, that's right, Sir Charles Barkley.
Big Chuckie broke the news to Jay Leno on a recent interview during the Tonight Show.
"I know I can do better than the people that are doing stuff there now." Barkley claimed. "We've got too many crooks on the City Council."
All right, big guy, you sound pretty motivated and excited about this. I get the impression that if you really put your mind to it, you can do anything. You can even raise your gambling debts to $400,000 and then tell Jay Leno, "Well, governor's down the line."
If I had to bet, oh let's say $400,000 on it, I would probably guess that the "crooks" in office in Leeds, Ala. don't have that much money owed to casinos, but that's just my opinion...I could be wrong.
The only thing that might be bigger than Barkley's mouth is the size of his Levi's. Let's not get it twisted here, folks. I love Charles' ridiculous comments and opinions as much as the next guy, but why in god's name are you running for Mayor?
Charlie...if you're seeking something fulfilling and rewarding, why don't you do the world a favor and just adopt a child from a Third World country like the rest of Hollywood... Angelina, Brad, Madonna... come on, man, get with the program. It's the cool thing to do nowadays.
His first order of business should be to lower the price of hamburgers and funnel cakes at the county fair. Okay, not quite, but you get the feeling that it's on his "To Do List." Other items include putting in a casino to fix his gambling addiction; tricking out the local ice cream truck; and making it slower so it's more convenient for him to track down.
I do not admire Charles Barkley, and I don't really know if many people should. However, I love to follow the silly things he does. The man is highly entertaining and has the best golf swing I have ever seen.

Barkley pays off debt to LV casino

Former NBA star Charles Barkley has retired his debt to a Strip casino that sued him after he failed to pay $400,000 in gambling loans.
But the lawsuit remains open, and it's going to cost Sir Charles $40,000 more to get out of the legal doghouse.
Barkley, a basketball analyst for Turner Network Television, said in a statement released Tuesday by TNT that he didn't know about the district attorney's $40,000 processing fee, but intends to pay it.
"True to my word, I sent a $400,000 cashier's check overnight to Wynn Las Vegas, which they confirmed they received," Barkley said. "I was unaware of the additional 10 percent processing fee from the district attorney's office and will make restitution on that promptly."

"chump" came to mind when I first read it.

professional athletes are taught early on to speak a variety of english that hardly exists elsewhere. that was the kind of verbage he used in the interview. I cant stand it. Barkley missed an opportunity here.
