To many high cards?

I got a count of -19 with just over 1 deck left in a 6 deck shoe. I would guess the true count was at least 15 or 16. The cut was a fair way back, maybe 30-40 cards left. I bet my max and lost 5 hands in a row, the dealer got blackjack once, and 20 three times and soft twenty once. I kept getting low stiffs. Guess its just unlucky that I got the single low cards and the dealer didn't. Anyway the count dropped about 12 in one hand because 4 people sat down and all hit stiffs to bust with two ten cards in their hands.

I ended up walking about 0.5 units up after a earlier lucky streak of about 8 blackjacks. But still I can't help but get scared on the high counts. They have never turned out good for me, yet :-(

Just keep pluggin' away...

Everybody's got a horror story about being destroyed during a high count. This is made up for when things do finally work out. Saturday I had a couple of shoes where the count went up early and stayed up. Had a record session win which was 1.5 times my old record. And I needed it, too!

Excuse me for being naive but isn't a negative count of that size exactly the opposite of what you want or was that a typo? What am I not seeing here?

yep this has happened to me also. it's like you are so happy to have a great true count after so many crappy ones and then you end up getting stiffs while every one else who isn't counting gets the sweet stuff :flame: .
but it's like you say you just got to keep plugging away. these are examples of experiencing negative fluctuation when you have the advantage.
i always take solace in the knowledge that this negative fluctuation should be countered by a larger positive result in the long run. but it is a hard pill to swallow.

The reason the high count scares folks is because they see 5% of their trip bank roll or more on the felt and its scary to think you will lose it, especially with splitting/doubling. But you know all of the reasons why you have to do it. Nothing sucks more than a bad losing streak on a huge count. Actually there is one thing, when the ploppy next to you who lowered his bet gets all the blackjacks you've been laying the big money for.

Nice catch!

I'm assuming it was a typo. I don't think the dealer would get a BJ and 3 twenties at a -19 TC.
