Very annoying people - How to handle?

Just for fun

I love it when someone "smarter" than me tries to tell me how to play. I seek their advice -- and then ignore it. That usually infuriates them and they leave me alone.

If they give me the correct play, I have even been known to make an incorrect play - just for fun. One incorrect hand won't make or break the bankroll - and it provides a bit of camo.

entertaining replies

I usually ignore the looks, mumbled comments of a ploppie when an index play is made, or how bad it is to mess up the card flow by wonging in/wonging out. My blood has boiled a few times, but kept it cool.

There may be a time though when I'll just have to say something to a major annoyance. Ie. This stocky dunce kept getting on people who didn't play proper basic strategy. The loudmouth applauded when one person left the table. Was waiting for the jerk to say something when I made an index play. He never did, but feel I may have went off on him if he did. At very least would have had to use this AP line I read somewhere: "Buddy if you don't like my play, beat it. There are plenty of other tables."

On a different post. This remark by BUZZARD had me rolling; “I state calmly-if you are losing , it is because you suck, not because of me”..

As for not sitting at third base I am with you there. Too much ploppie observation is given to that player who “controls the destiny of the table”, and prefer to sit at other spots to avoid unwanted attention.

LOL, I like this, but there have been a few times I felt physically threatened. I guess I am OK at the table, under the eye, but you never know what some of these jerks are capable of.

Grow up

Here's my two pennies worth:

I go to the casino to make money and that's the long and the short of it. It is a rather cumbersome proposition to negotiate in the first place: concentration, discipline, disguise, etc. Then there's the actual environment: the usually hostile casino, the loud and drunken crowd, the horrendous music, the slot machines drilling holes in my eardrums, the meaningless encounters and empty tittle tattle, and so on and so forth. I have to endure all that in order to eventually arrive at a faintly advantageous position over the casino which also only pans out in the long run.

I'm not there to prove anything to anyone. I don't want the casino to know I can beat its game any more than I care to rub in the other players' face that I am better than them in the game of blackjack. Big f*ing deal at the end of the day! A bit of humility will go along way with both the players and the casino.

I am split in two: one part of me is at any given point computing the best available play. And the other is acting out this play in the real world. Because it is in the real world that I am playing, not in my imaginary universe where there are establishments who invite people to extract profit 1-3% at a time whilst providing a convivial atmosphere made up only of like-minded individuals of my choice.

So, it is as much an artistry to act out the playing of this game in the real world as it is a feat to memorise 50 indices and be able to count up and down. Anyone as self-righteous to exhibit contempt for those (who, in many cases around here were also us in our beginnings) who believe in luck, spirits, fate etc in the game of blackjack and as self-absorbed to feel like they have something to prove to others and as self-destructive to not understand that it is part of the job to blend in and to separate the play from the act - anyone like so is simply not up to the task...

The point is not to get annoyed but not show it and then come home and sorrow over your unpleasant experience on the internet (AH! but those ploppies!). The point is to not get annoyed in the first place. Grow up and get on with it!

I like 3rd or 1st base because I don't like having someone on both sides of me. Having to sit next to one person is bad enough; I don't want to double the annoyance.

Ignore it or embrace it. Getting upset about it won't do anything but raise your BP and lower your enjoyment of the game. God grant you the serenity, and all that....

bonus bets

Alot of good discussion in this thread about ploppies being annoying, criticizing your play. But bonus best haven't been mentioned yet. My usual place has $10-15 tables with bonus bets like High-Tie or Perfect Pair. I never play those because of course it's a bad bet. But sometimes I feel like NOT playing the bonus bets gets me unwanted attention from the ploppies. When I get a perfect pair they all get mad at me because I didn't have any money on it. Some of these people are putting almost as much money on the bonus bet as they are on the regular blackjack bet. Like a green chip on the hand, 2 reds on the bonus. I tell them that I have horrible luck with the bonus bets, that I never win them. I tell them the (true) story of when I decided to try the bonus bet for the heck of it, 5 hands in a row with 1 white chip each, losing each one, and then I got perfect pairs on the next TWO hands but with no money on it. But still being the only one at the table not playing the bonus bet makes me feel like I could potentially be getting attention from the pit.

In my experience, those are the players with the Gambling issues.

They're trying to chase money long gone, and are looking at every excuse as to why it wasn't their fault.... and you're in the line of fire.

Since there are so many laws restricting the staff from offering help to people that they think/know need it... do everyone a favour, call them out. It could turn hostile yes, but chances are you'll either embarass them and they'll leave... and if it does get nasty security will have your back and they'll be removed anyway.

It's supposed to be a fun environment since Gambling is a form of entertainment... No one wants a jerk on their table.

I agree but that post sounds like it was written by someone from the other side of the pit.
