What casino is next to close?

A recent article in the Las Vegas Sun reported heavy losses for the Riviera and Hilton. The Riviera is already in bankruptcty and the Hilton has been struggling for some time. Both have bad blackjack games. Hilton has a huge number of 6-5 games and Riviera has a 7-5 game with other very poor rules. Sadly, the best blackjack game at these properties may be their virtual machines(6 decks, H17, late surrender). One good thing about the Riviera is its soft poker games. A bad thing about Riviera is its food: I got very sick last month after eating at Crazy Leroy's next to the sports book. Another casino possibly on the brink is the Westin-Casuarina. They were extremely reluctant and rude to me last year when I tried to use my $25 matchplay. They also advertise a 25-cent roulette game which isn't 25-cent at all. In fact, it's a dollar minimum.

The Plaza ?

Any news on the Plaza downtown ? Was there recently and it was really sad. They said they were under construction and would reopen in Aug. From the looks of it I wonder. Anyone know?

I am very surprised the Riveria is still open. That place, while historically significant, is not a place I'd like to hang around at.

And 7:5?? I've never seen such a thing!

The Riviera will close. Just wonder when. No foot traffic and a rep for being full of bad games and old fogies.

I never play there these days and only stayed there once (20 years ago when I was a meth addict - I kept hearing neo-nazis and narcs through the walls of my room) and so my memories aren't romantic.

Thank me for sharing. :cool2:

Riviera is a total dump. Old casino, terrible games, crabby dealers complaining about their hours/lack of pay/poor tips. Thought I'd give them a try on my first trip to Vegas but haven't been back since.

+1 for Riviera. The place just gives me the creeps any more. We were there about 3 years ago to see a show that was actually very good, especially for the price. But the shows are gone and for the most part, so are the people.

As far as the Plaza goes, didn't their ownership buy the furnishings from the seized Fontanebleau? That bodes well to a certain degree for the hotel end, but the casino could sure use cleaning and updating.

For what its worth, Riveria is giving away free rooms. All you have to do is give them aplayers card number from another casino and then show it when you check in. Its supposed to be two free nites, but I know some people have asked for, and recieved three nites.
Slots of Fun is a cash cow. That and Circus Circus are just about the only lien free casinos on the strip.
