What's the best way to get my bankroll to Vegas?

From reading posts here, I get the sense that a lot of people travel with cash, but I don't like the idea of having $20K on me.

Has anyone used travelers checks?

I was also thinking about wiring front money to the place I am staying, but would still mean I'd be walking around with a lot of cash when I go from casino to casino.

I don't particularly want to play by drawing markers, but if that is the easiest/safest way to go I guess I'll be establishing credit. But that means establishing credit at a lot of casinos and I don't know where I'll be playing yet (it's my first trip).

If you're an American Express cardholder, you can get $1000 cheques but with a several percent charge on them though. That's still 20 cheques for your bankroll, but I've taken 20 on a trip before.

If you're a AAA member, you can get $500 denoms.

Otherwise, you could always just roll your money up really tight, and...:laugh::eek: naaah.

good luck

I'm going to Vegas next week. I have TT'ed funds to the Casino I'm staying at via a Gaming Host, the front money will get me comps to shows etc.
I am traveling from overseas with my wife and we will be both carrying $9k. We don't need to declare this going out but we will declare this when we enter the US. There is no problem declaring funds above $10k because you have a legitamate reason - Las Vegas to gamble. Good Luck.

Sounds like a good way to go, as long as they don't give you a hard time for taking the $ out to use elsewhere. I might try this myself.

I was thinking about this too, but then I have to carry the money from casino to casino.

I have to say this does not seem like a good idea. After being mugged twice, once in Paris and once in NYC, I know it can happen to anybody.

If your a US citzen try this

About ten years ago a bank made me very angry when a check didn't clear (that should have) and wanted me to pay about $400 in overdraft fees. for one weekend of spending $96. So after a run-in with a rude teller I immediately tried to open an acct at the bank across the street but had been reported for acct abuse on tele-check already. Seems the teller's feelings were mutual. So instead of paying, I boycotted banks for 7 years, anyway . . .
I later established an acct at Money Tree. They offer debit cards at .50 cents a week with a large daily withdrawal limit. I can't remember if it was over $5K or $10k, but it was up there! ACH transfers are free, which was great for stocks, back in the day :( When your done using it, just withdraw all your funds -.50cents and the acct will be closed until you put money back into it.
Also If you talk to your bank they can probably increase your daily withdrawal limit, mine does.
Hope you double your bankroll and have to use that leathwallet and hopefully not the give-up wallet as well.
Good Cards!

You can open a Bank of America or Wells Fargo account, any bank that has branches in both LV and where you live. Let the bank shuttle your money around for you.

The disadvantage is you can only get your money when the bank is open. The advantage is you can deposit your money in LV when you are done playing and it will be waiting for you at home.

I have carried more then 20K on me and find it to be no problem as long as your not flashing it around every time you buy a soda. I keep it in 5K stacks and put them in different places all over my person, maybe 5 in each shoe 5 in each pocket. ALso a money belt can be bought very cheap and most places like EMS or any airport gift shop. I prefer to have cash on my person, as i feel its more safe then anywhere else. Also ii think travelers checks and all that bullshit is to much to do. When i want my cash i want it right then and there, i dont want to have to go cash a travlers check or sign for a marker i just wanna reach in my pocket. Also about getting mugged it would be a cold day in hell when i let someone take anything from me (especially a frenchy lol) i usually carry a 9mm with me when i take trips and when i fly i toss a decent sized blade in my suitcase so when i get off the plane i can arm myself a bit. you would be surprised how fast someone would turn the other way at the possabilty of you sticking a 4 inch blade in there throat, most people who rob and do muggings are junkies who need it for drugs so next time try to fight back i bet youll be surprised how fast a dope head will drop with a right hook to his jaw area.

Be very careful with this. The practice of breaking up money so that it falls under a reporting threshold is, in itself, a crime which is equivalent to non-reporting. For example, if someone cashes out $9,900 multiple times, just short of the $10,000 limit for a CTR, the casino is required to file a SAR (Suspicious Activity Report).

There's absolutely zero problem if your money is legal and you intend to use it legally in the United States, so long as you declare it.

Assuming you have a Mass. carry permit, you do realize that it isn't valid out of state, yes? Use it in NY or NJ and you'll end up with legal bills in excess of twenty grand or you'll be taking an extended vacation.

This might be veering off topic a little bit, but if you're trained with weapons, this is an excellent idea as well. But check with the local authorities about the legality of carrying a gun in any casino (or state, for that matter). Obviously flying with any weapon requires checked luggage.

One other item I would recommend is a high-powered flashlight, like something from Surefire. You can keep it clipped to your belt or pocket and draw it very quickly. It will easily blind someone (especially at night) allowing you to get away. It's also great for keeping general creeps/beggars/drunks away without doing damage that would justify a police report or worries about assault. And you can always fly with it without concerns.

There are also tactical flashlights which are designed to withstand hitting someone with it. They also tend to have a concentrated beam for blinding people. In my opinion, they're a pretty good defensive tool for most people.

Just buy a $50 taser or stun gun and call it a day. You can bring down a 300 pound nfl player in a split second, plus you wont have much trouble at an airport or any where else as you would with a gun.

Agree completely. There are B of A's and Wells Fargo's all over Vegas and Reno/ Tahoe. You can also set up a high cash-out limit at their ATM's if you need bucks off hours. With a high enough balance they will also provide you a free/ cheap SD box which comes in handy in several ways.
Since Wells Fargo has just acquired Wachovia, they will soon be accepting transactions from those branches which adds to the flexibility of moving momey from out of state.

These too are illegal in many jurisdictions.

Sounds like now we're into "who packs what". Assuming that Phillip even wants to carry some sort of a weapon from overseas in the first place, what does LV/Nevada allow one to carry?

good luck
