would you quit playing blackjack if your only option was 8 decks H17 DOA 75% pen

No, the only game I have available to me is 8 deck, H17, DOA, DA2. Pen, however, is around 80% or better.

As long as one can make more then double what they could in the real world then the answer is an objective yes! Now subjectively, someone may choose to pursue something else.

Why does a casino offer an eight deck game? Is it to discourage AP's? Does the casino simply want to increase their already built-in house advantage? Why don't they offer ten decks? If the casino is paranoid about blackjack, why offer it at all? Profits are much bigger on slots, roulette, and craps.
 
I played those games for a few years, so my answer is no. I can live (literally..:laugh:) with the small edge. Bump your spread and ramp up to compensate and wong very aggressively.
 
Death by 8 Deck

I feel bad now since I do in fact play 8d since neither is 6d is available in my br limits. Should I give up playing? No! Should I find the advantage in playing game by using your head? Yes! It's beatable but it's may be boring at times and brs take a hit more often then one would want. Learning to beat the 8d is not as hard as one would think but the h17 does put a smack on you instead of s17 like I play. Surrender helps alot when playing the big deck games so be sure to look for places that offer it.:cry:

Less shuffle time, discourages AP, and slightly higher house edge are all valid reasons for the proliferation for 8 deck games. And realistically, is there much different in normal players' perception of 6 vs 8 decks?

I think you don't see 10 deckers because 8 decks is the most a human dealer can be expected to be able to handle.
 
I've seen a dealer drop 8 decks of cards when taking it out of the discard tray. Wasted 20 minutes for them to replace the cards with a brand new 8 decks.

Of course the game is still beatable but to beat it, yeah you're going to have wong pretty aggressively or have a huge spread. Waiting for +2 TC all day is not my idea of fun and well as you know wonging has become even harder as they really pack the tables now. I actually got yelled at by players at the table the last time when I was wonging, as they claimed I was messing up the flow! This of course brought me unwanted attention so there are some additional risks with wonging.

Since I play it all, I am the one yelling at AP that they interrupt the flow of a good shoe although I know they are just wonging.

I'm surprised at you, Thunder. A players opinions about the flow of cards has absolutely no bearing on me. If the casino rules allow mid shoe entry and I want in, I get in. Yes, tables are really packed in the east. Head west young man. :laugh:

The term 'wonging' does not always refer to entering mid shoe. Playing off the top and exiting at predetermined negative count is 'wonging out'. Not quite as effective as only playing positive counts, but far better than playing all.

Kewl, I think you misunderstood. It doesn't have any bearing on me when ploppies complain about me messing up their flow either except when the pitboss becomes involved. I actually had a pitboss restrict me from wonging (both wonging in and out). Sure I could have picked a fight but that wasn't going to help.
If I let all the things ploppies say to me bother me, there would be an awful lot of fights :laugh: I love the feeling when they yell at me for hitting a 12 vs a dealer 6 and I pull the 21 and then they're like wow how did you know.
