Took a few days off and stayed at the Sahara in Las Vegas. They have what I have to call a virtual blackjack game available in the casino. I think they also had virtual poker as well. It's a table with 6 spots for players to sit and a huge screen in front of them. You can bet as little as $1.00. The screen has a virtual host followed by a virtual dealer. The graphics are quite good.
Should we be concerned?

Aren't these games CSM essentially?? This would work well if it were a shoe game, but it would be pretty easy for a computer to tell if you were counting based off your spread, etc....

prankster:

These have been around awhile. No, I wouldn't be concerned. They are not going to take over live BJ.

bjcounter:

Yes..it's CSM and can't be beat. Not a bad play for a BS who might want to get their feet wet in a casino to practice at low limits before moving up to a live table.

depending on the manufacture if its a CSM, the one at the isle of capri in lake charles even prints the pen amount on the game, if i remember right its 75% pen on 6 decks. This machine shuffled about as often as a fast 6 deck table with that pen. My mother in law likes playing that over live tables because of not having to tip, but it changed dealers every time the shuffle should have happened.

They are six decks, shuffled after 2/3 of the cards have been played. However, there is no indication of exactly when the shuffle occurs. I'm not sure it occurs with each dealer shift, although that is a possability.
As some casinos have these for as little as $1 a hand,I think it's a great way for the BS player to practice.
I recently put in a few hours on them to see how the comp points would pay.Using Oscars Grind and using a $1 base unit,I averaged $8 an hour in profit for just over 15 hours. I encountered a 12 hand losing streak during this, but the biggest my bet ever got was nine units.
I intend to repeat the experiment with a $3 unit next trip.

I played at one of these at dover downs one time. went ok for a little bit and I was up about $300 until the dealer magically got BJ 6 times in a row. I left after that

Some casinos in Idaho use these because cards are technically not allowed but slots are... these are used because they technically are "video games" under state law.

But in Vegas... sacrilege!

Since many ploppies tend to tip more than their overall winnings,I'm not at all convinced these are a bad thing for the casual player. The games I've seen have decent rules and low minimums. They beat the heck out of the standard $5 6-5 game that is become almost universal on the strip.

I played at one of these in Rhode Island about 6 months ago. I started with $50 and won $150. They also had virtual BJ which kinda reminded me of one of those Futuristic schwarzenegger movies because it had a 60" screen with a virtual woman that looked at each player as she dealt the cards. I prefer a live dealer.
