Long long time ago
A long long time ago, at that legendary oasis of luxury, we call the Western, I wondered in with my niece, who had just graduated college and was ready to do some counting on an inexpensive single deck game.
We go directly to the high roller, (that was the $5 table in those days and probably today) table and after a couple of decks she gets on a good run of variance.
The tray has a grand total of 1 black chip and she cashes out about $1200, for 45 minutes of play, she gets the lonely black and a ton of quarter chips and head to the cage. Perhaps the cage already got a heads up because no phone call or questions they just pay her but she never cashed the black chip.
Now, over a dozen years have passed, but every once in a while, especially when she is in Vegas, you might recognize her. When you see an attractive, mid thirties, tall and atheletic woman who happens to be wearing a Western black chip in a bezel around her neck, say hi to ihate 17's niece.
I believe since that time, whenever someone goes to the cage at the Western with a black chip the reason they call the pit is that they are still trying to find the chip they could not account for over a dozen years ago.
