I was playing at this crappy casino for a really short session I color up one black. I go up to the cashier the guy does not cashout my black chip right away he calls the pit for permission to cash out the black chip! As I walk from the cashier the pit boss is waiting by the side of the pit to glare at me as I walk by. Has anyone had a simliar experience just for a black chip? This casino makes Rail City look like a 5 star casino.

Had the same thing happen this year at either the California or Las Vegas Club...

Green chips get a "checks play" at the El Cortez

A lowish-roller local joint always has a call between the cashier and pit when I have any number of black chips. I think it's mainly just an accounting/tracking thing. Although I get glares from the pit too, I think I'm starting to mess up their numbers.

Hey, don't make fun of Rail City. They actually replaced the felt on table #2...after 5 years, besides they redifned the term "ratholing". As for the black chips, of course they're scrutinized there, hell, one of those and I can almost fill up my SUV or pay their dealers' salary for a week!

Long long time ago

A long long time ago, at that legendary oasis of luxury, we call the Western, I wondered in with my niece, who had just graduated college and was ready to do some counting on an inexpensive single deck game.
We go directly to the high roller, (that was the $5 table in those days and probably today) table and after a couple of decks she gets on a good run of variance.
The tray has a grand total of 1 black chip and she cashes out about $1200, for 45 minutes of play, she gets the lonely black and a ton of quarter chips and head to the cage. Perhaps the cage already got a heads up because no phone call or questions they just pay her but she never cashed the black chip.
Now, over a dozen years have passed, but every once in a while, especially when she is in Vegas, you might recognize her. When you see an attractive, mid thirties, tall and atheletic woman who happens to be wearing a Western black chip in a bezel around her neck, say hi to ihate 17's niece.

I believe since that time, whenever someone goes to the cage at the Western with a black chip the reason they call the pit is that they are still trying to find the chip they could not account for over a dozen years ago.

bahahaha!

that beats my last western story. me and 2 friends are playing, and to say the least we aren't their typical clientele. nevertheless we play for awhile, and i'm not exercising any cover, i'm not winning either, and my friends lost like $25 between the two of them..... we're leaving after having our fill of baseheads, drifters, scammers and criminals --- the pit boss saw us leaving and stopped us to personally invited us back to play "anytime."

i think he was sad we were leaving. i could have got away with murder that day, but the sacred flow of variance was not with me.

Second that! Great story! Belongs in a future book of experiences as a card counter.
I have been working on a book, "Tales from the Felt", filled basically with humorous and sad stories that revolve around the blackjack table. There are several about my niece.
By the way, she is a great, not good, blackjack player, though because of job and family she really does not play that often. There is something I have called, "The Female Advantage", and though today, with more women working in the pits, it is not as effective, it definately remains an advantage that we guys do not get.
Remember, male pits still believe most stereotypes, such as the average counter is a middle aged guy (perhaps with a pocket protector) who drinks bottled water etc etc. They also very firmly believe that, "girls can't count" and the more attractive and younger the lady, the less mental ability they give them credit for. Now this advantage may not last for a lady forever, but coming in to a place fresh, it is definately there.

I noticed that if I am friendly with the pit and dealers they seem to let me do what I want. I checked out the Western yesterday or day before, it's all running together now. They have the first real-live 4-deck game I have ever seen, but it was awful (H17 no DAS). I dropped $50 on one shoe, another $50 on their SD game, and got the heck out of there. So they got the $100 back but not the black chip, LOL. Now talk about a dive, the Western is it! I might have played a bit more but the place was so rancid I felt like it would be a good idea to leave while it was still daylight out. My wife would kill me if I ever took her to a place like that, she almost cried her first time at the EC! She warmed to it pretty fast though once I forced her to play a bit there.

Comment I forgot to add: I like to establish my bet level right up front. I'm going to play green and if you don't like it there are plenty of other places that do. However, sometimes I want to play red, when I get on a bad shoe or losing streak. If you want to stand their and glare at me, prepare for some flack if you make me nervous and I make a "mistake". I was getting a little pissed at one point and about to call a PB out, but then it just happened that I never felt anything resembling heat after that. I guess dropping $1500 in a red chip place will do that for ya, hehe.
