Perfect Pairs Blackjack
Perfekte Paare is an optional side bet offered alongside the main hand at thousands of blackjack tables, live and online. You bet that your first two cards will be a pair, and the payout climbs with how perfect the pair is: same rank pays, same rank and color pays more, and two identical cards pay the most. This page gives you the exact odds, what the bet really returns, and when, honestly, to leave it alone.
How Perfect Pairs works
- Mixed pair: same rank, different colors (K♥ K♠). The common payout is 6:1.
- Colored pair: same rank, same color, different suits (K♥ K♦). Commonly 12:1.
- Perfect pair: two identical cards, possible because the shoe holds multiple decks (K♥ K♥). Commonly 25:1.
The bet settles on your first two cards only; nothing that happens afterwards in the hand affects it.
The exact odds
Pair odds are pure deck arithmetic, so here they are computed exactly for the standard eight-deck game with the common 25/12/6 paytable:
| Ergebnis | Chance (8 decks) | Bezahlt |
|---|---|---|
| Perfect pair | 1.69% of hands | 25:1 |
| Colored pair | 1.93% of hands | 12:1 |
| Mixed pair | 3.86% of hands | 6:1 |
| Any pair | 7.471 TP4T-Hände |
Put together, that is a return of 95.90% on every dollar staked: a 4.10% house edge, roughly eight times the price of a well-played main hand. Evolution publishes the same 95.90% figure for the Perfect Pairs bet on its standard live tables, which is a good sign the paytable above is the one you will usually meet.
Fewer decks make it worse, much worse
Here Perfect Pairs behaves exactly opposite to the main game. Fewer decks help your blackjack hand, but they gut this side bet, because perfect pairs need duplicate cards and small shoes have few of them. With the same 25/12/6 paytable, the return falls from 95.90% at eight decks zu 93.89% at six decks, and collapses to 77.67% at two decks. If you ever see Perfect Pairs offered on a double deck game, that is one of the worst bets in the casino wearing a friendly name; our double deck page explains why the main game runs the other way.
Solltest du es spielen?
Not for value. No strategy, count or timing changes these numbers: the bet is settled by the shuffle. Play it, if at all, the way you would play a lottery line: small, occasional, and priced in as entertainment. The main hand at the same table returns above 99% with correct play, and our Strategie-Motor will tell you exactly how much for your rules.
Where you will meet it
Perfect Pairs appears on most live dealer blackjack tables (Evolution’s standard tables carry it at the 25/12/6 paytable, and their Power Blackjack runs a 20/10/5 version priced at 94.30% on its stripped shoe) and on many RNG blackjack games. Our live dealer blackjack guide covers the tables and what each one offers alongside the main game.
FAQ
What are the odds of hitting Perfect Pairs?
At eight decks, 7.47% of hands: 3.86% mixed, 1.93% colored, 1.69% perfect. These are exact deck-arithmetic numbers, not estimates, and no strategy changes them.
What does the Perfect Pairs bet pay?
The common paytable is 6:1 for a mixed pair, 12:1 for a colored pair and 25:1 for a perfect pair, which returns 95.90% at eight decks. Some tables run other paytables, and the return moves with them.
Is Perfect Pairs a good bet?
Not for value: about a 4.10% house edge against under 1% on a well-played main hand. Treat it as entertainment money, the way you would a lottery line.
Does the number of decks matter?
Enormously, and backwards from the main game: fewer decks mean fewer duplicate cards, so the same paytable returns 95.90% at eight decks, 93.89% at six, and just 77.67% at two. Never play it on a small shoe.
