Female Blackjack players?

#61
I'm a middle aged female who knows BS. I haven't played much recently because all of casinos in my state charge an ante of 50 cents per hand.

My hubby and I are going to Vegas this weekend to play in a tournament. If the men in the tournament underestimate my skill, all the better for me. Gives me the advantage, don't you think? Last tournament we were in was a Jack and Jill tournament and we came in 6th place. Not bad for all our 3rd time playing a tourny.

Oh, and by the way, I tell my hubby what the correct BS plays are. And I, too, have a Master's in Engineering.

I haven't learn to count cards at this point, because the wine and pool keep calling. But do know enough to watch the cards. Not as motivated as I was when I was younger. If I had learn to play before I was 50, I'm sure I would have devoted more time to learning to count, not just learning BS.

I would love to play in more tournies. major fun!

I grew up with an older brother that would punch your teeth out and steal the money under your pillow to boot. Women on this site are always targets for critical review and you know it. I going to start a new thread to hash out the facts. blackchipjim:whip:

No new thread

I won't start a new thread this is the best place for this type of discussion. I revert back to Katrina Walker and her book for a case in point. If it were written by a man you know alot of people here would recieve it alot different. I think she did a good job and provided alot of insight into the game. The gender of a player has as much to do with the game as the height. I will agree that you will see alot more male aps then females but thats because you may not recognize them. If I see some chick with stacks of black and me with little green you can bet her dumb plays may not be so dumb. She has the advantage because no one will suspect her as an ap. blackchipjim

Dude those stacks of black chips could be from a buy in or from hustling SUGAR DADDY'S. I can see you could become a canadite for SUGAR DADDY of the year award. I repeat I have NEVER seen even a good BS women player in my life. Maybe I have been playing long enough. I have been playing only for about 8 years.

One of the best BS players I've ever seen was a young woman. After she split her pair of 9s vs. 9, the guy next to her asked if she always did that. She replied, "Oh, yes", as if surprised anyone would ask that.

I will go as far as to say I have never seen a perfect BS player man or woman, other than those that have played with my team, ever at any casino. Some get close, but apparently all the real good players are on this site and are never at a table when I am there.

Being a perfect BS player will not make you any money it will only limit your losses not unless you get lucky that day.

I have seen perfect BS players, almost always using a BS card.

What's sad is seeing a player using a BS card, but for the wrong game. It's still nearly as good as the right BS, and better than what any sub-BS player does. I suppose anyone wise enough to learn to use BS and know the right BS for the game should be at least dabbling in AP rather than playing BS with a card.

No way, I don't believe anyone disparages Kat's book because she's female. Not being an established author is a much bigger factor, plus it's a niche game that not everyone has a reason to play. Anyone who actually plays those games finds it a valuable reference, even I who write my own strategies.

Of course, but I never said a perfect BS player would make money. However you would need to have it down cold before you should move on to any methods that may actually give you an advantage, thus giving you a chance to make money. To date I have not seen any players other than the ones I know play perfect BS, ever. That includes those with BS cards. They might use it most of the time, but they seem to always falter and go with guts if a play seems strange or hasn't worked for them so far.

I never implied that you said, "a perfect BS player would make money. A person with an average IQ should be able to pick up BS within 2 days have it down cold. It took me about a day but then I come from a backround of gambling and hands on play in the real world for 40 years +.

A well-meaning but retarded ploppy once offered me a Reno BS card (double 9, 10, 11 only and NDAS) in a Las Vegas Strip casino. Seeing the potential, I started playing with it at all my tables, pretending to look up all the marginal hands and selectively disagreeing with the card when it disagreed with Strip rules.

I gave it up when I graduated from the $3/$5 tables, since nobody seemed to be using them at higher limits.

If you took the time to learn and play BS perfectly

I agree, with the one exception I have seen, and would think that your team members who played BS perfectly were only doing so as part of the team strategy and were capable counters.
In my opinion it takes more time to learn basic strategy than to learn a simple counting system, but it takes more time to master cardcounting to the point where you become a winner. So, people who truely master BS also learn to count. They may spread properly or play proper or enough indices but they do learn how to count. Because of this, playing BS should be a red flag telling pits that they need to really watch this player but it is often overlooked perhaps because most pits do not know basic strategy.

Found this for the women players on the forum:

.…it is an absolute must that you learn and I mean really learn, everything [….] if you expect to cut the casino advantage down to something manageable and provide yourself with the foundation necessary to learn winning methods

Yeah, if Tina Sparx did it, so must you. BTW, I still can't get her picture out of my mind! Neither can Zg.

You're generally safe in a casino, providing the usual rules for dealing with strange men are observed, e.g., no going up to a guy's room to check out his CD collection, etc.
However, checking out one's banana collection on the other hand is quite acceptable.

I'm a 25 year old female. Most of the women at my local casino are older Chinese. I'm the only girl my age playing, so I kinda stand out. So I don't think it's an advantage.

I play perfect BS and don't ever let my gut interfere. My friend sometimes stands 16 versus dealer 10 and it annoys me so much.
