One time I got so mad I said "I listen to statisticians!" Shut the ploppie down fast.

When dealt an A7 against a dealer 10. I said "The fact is an eighteen is not that good against a 10." It's not that powerful of an answer but it did shut him up.
 
Best to learn to say nothing. For cover reasons you really don't want to help anyone nor explain your play. Idle chatter is ok, but why expose your skills?

Because even the dealers think it's funny. Besides I don't want to be made uncomfortable with every play I make.
 
Funniest response I've ever seen is when my a guy kept yelling at my friend for making "bad" plays and my friend says:

"Wow you must know a lot. You want me to give you my money and you can play for me?"

Other guy: "Yeah."

My friend: "Yeah, Pass."
 
So I'm at the table minding my own business. Dealer gives me A/7 to his 10 upcard. I take a hit-"Mr. know it all ploppy" seated to my right loudly states "THAT'S AN 18 'YA KNOW"! Now normally I'd say something like "oh really"? Maybe my blood sugar was low,I'm not sure: I responded with "that's a soft 18 and according to basic strategy you hit on dealers' upcard of 9,10,or Ace. You stand on 2,7,or 8 and double down on 3 through 6"! He got up and left the table. Like I said low blood sugar(?) coupled with his arrogant "know it all" attitude maybe?:joker:

I wholeheartedly agree. The only time to chime in is when a scavenger play is called for.

Most dealers and pc's for that matter, know just as little as the ploppies and buy into all their superstitions.

I know it's really tough to do resist but showing any intelligence in a casino is a job hazard.
 
Usually, you just want to ignore it. But some of these ploppies will start bringing heat down on you for making plays. They'll yell about ****, and then the floor/boss comes over, and now people are paying attention to how you play, how much you bet, etc.

Sometimes it's good figure out how to shut them up.

Sometimes if you hit them with the facts and put it succinctly then they shut up.

I do that too. I only say something when there is nothing else to say.
 
While playing in Germany this week, I think the lady next to me was trying to tell me how to play--I just didn't understand any of it!! Finally, I replied, "spreche english?" and never heard another word!

Yes, I agree. You don't want to shut them up just for your own satisfaction, but it's good to develop some degree of control over what goes on at that table.

Another thing to consider is that you don't know who those people are and if you are being observed by someone who might attack you or try to rob you at some later point, so you want to project an attitude of being reasonably tough and assertive. Not aggressive or spoiling for a fight, just willing to defend yourself.

you know, there is some truth to ploppy talk when you are splitting tens and keep resplitting. YOU ARE in truth, taking the dealer's bust cards for yourself, and not allowing a table win. I don't do it most of time at my local casinos since they all have small town friendly attitudes. but give me tens in vegas, and I'll split them at low counts just to get the assholes off my table.

Wait, are you saying that your splitting tens changes the dealer's chance of busting? Because that isn't true. You are taking more cards out of a heavy deck, but that's different.

Absolutely not so. If you don't believe me, watch me split 10's sometime and see what cards I get. :(
