You know you're in good company when the player to you right hits 17v10 busts and the players to your left stand on 12v10 and 14 v10. Not one BS player on the table. (my stand on 16 v 10 kind of blended in) Dealer was smiling. :laugh:

I felt the need for some good cover yesterday while playing two hands, so I hit a hard 12 and a hard 14 against a dealer 3. It was a negative count and I figured I'd make a hand on one of them. Need I say more?
PS-- The dealer hit his 13 and caught a 6.
PSS-- The cover worked; the other players kept bringing it up.

How is that cover? That is what a counter would do in that situation. Need to be pretty negative for the 14 though.

But you should be hitting 12 v 3 anyways
14 v 3 doesn't have to get that negative (I think its -5'ish), so yeah worth doing every now and then for cover, if its getting close to -5.Yeah and the ploppies will keep bringing it up, thats a given.

You're right, so I must be having trouble remembering. It was two stiffs I was not supposed to hit against a dealer bustable hand. I can't remember what I had for dinner. Oh yeah I can, it was a burger king steak sandwich at 3 in the am after a session of DD. I know it was burger king because I can still taste it and it is laying like a brick in the pit of my stomach.But you should be hitting 12 v 3 anyways
Yeah and the ploppies will keep bringing it up, thats a given.
All of these stories are fascinating but i still think the worst plays are the ones where the ploppy asks for advice(in this case from me) and then does something stupid anyway. My last venture out i sat next to this large breasted woman(quantity, not quality however) with a 10 cent brain. I typically don't say much at the tables unless somebody asks, so when she had a 10 vs dealer 8 she asked me if she was supposed to hit or double. I said you are supposed to double. "oh are you sure she says, let me ask my husband". Mr. Clean look-a-like tells her, "no no, never double a ten vs. a 9 or 8, and don't ever hit 16 vs. 10 either"... "oh ok she says"... so she hits and gets an Ace and is then pissed because she had a $50 bet out and doubling would have made her some extra cash.
Personally, i hate when people ask for advice and then do the wrong thing, if she had just hit without the consultation session she could have at least pleaded ignorance.

I played this week with an interesting mix of ploppies and a guy who had half a clue what he was doing. This nice guy with an accent to whom english was obviously a second language was sitting next to me. He really didnt know basic strategy. We mostly kept our mouths shut but tried to keep him from doing anything to stupid.
After everyone else had lost their stake and a fresh set of ploppies hit the table he was barely hanging in there. I was cautiously testing my proficiency with a new system upgrade so everything I estimated was severely floored so any mistakes I would make couldnt hurt to bad. He could tell I knew what I was doing. Finally he was going to split fives against an 8. I just about jumped out of my seat telling the dealer he meant he wanted to double but his english isnt very strong. He didnt second guess me and went along with it. He pulled an ace. But that wasnt the most stupid play.
Most of the ploppies seemed to be there to play the lucky ladies side bet. I think the dumbest play was people betting more money on the side bet than their base bet. They would get an ace and be disappointed when it became a blackjack because they only broke even. The only other person not betting the side bet got a pair of heart queens twice but the dealer didnt have blackjack. I think that bet combination is the worst play Ive ever seen.

I've also seen such other bad moves as; people playing 6:5 blackjack dealt from a CSM!

Intuition might be a good way to go. Your subconcious notices more things than your conscious mind, and processes vastly more information than you can consciously. It communicates to your conscious with feelings of unease/confidence. Just conjecture, but wouldn't be surprised if your subconscious might be picking up on patterns of the flow of the cards due to shuffle, picking up tells from the dealer who might be doing the same, integrating the memories of the "flow" of cards you played previously, subtle marks on the card, etc.,
Now I wouldn't suggest you hit 17, but a close decision, maybe do go with your gut.

Probably the worst play I've ever seen was one in which the dealer INTENTIONALLY tricked the beginner into making (which is WHY I consider it the worst play I've ever seen).
This was at the Silver Legacy about a year ago. It was obviously the first time this young girl had ever played BJ. She had 8-2 ($5 bet); took a hit & got an ace. Confused, she turned over her cards & asked the dealer what she had. The dealer; who was making no effort to conceal her lack of patience, replied: "You have eleven or twenty-one" (with great emphasis on the word eleven). Still confused, she started to scratch for a hit. Before I or anyone else could say anything, this piece of sh*t dealer, with a self-satisfied smirk on her face, flipped that hit card out so fast I thought her ARM was going to fall off!
I thought about reporting the b*tch to the PB, but then it WAS the Silver Legacy; probably would've just gotten MYSELF kicked out.
