you DO always split aces and 8's.. and before you start calling me a ploppie, perhaps you should do some research.. its ironic that your on a website that tells you to always split aces and 8s via the strategy maker, yet you think thats a stupid comment.. in fact, i dont know of any rule variation that would not have you split aces and 8's 100% of the time

im not sure about when its a high count, but you always split 8's, its to minimize your losses.. sometimes ppl try and say "well why have 2 shitty hands instead of 1?" but its more complicated than that.. remember, UNLESS YOU COUNT CARDS, anything you do in the casino (except poker, but even in poker) is about minimizing losses and getting your entertainment dollar worth

why would they ask you to leave for that? your chances of getting it 3x in a row without counting are roughly 1 in 10, which is possible.. there must have been something else, and also, putting myself in a ploppy's shoes, i would think you would want to take insurance on a stiff because your going to lose anyways so might as well try to get some money on this hand

funny you say that, because ive been to a casino that has a "learn how to play blackjack" table where they teach you basic strategy and hand out strategy cards.. the game wasnt that bad either, it was good rules (except H17) (about .6% house edge) and $5 minimum.. the odd thing was i didnt see 1 person using them! its like wtf, if your going to throw your money away like that when the information is right in front of you, then why dont you share some with every1 at the table
 
Splitting those 8's

I play many surrender games:
Hi-Lo indices, surrender those 8's, instead of splitting against an ace in a H-17 game if the count is less than +4, but never surrender in a S-17 game against an ace.

Surrender against a 10 with a count of +1 or higher
Surrender against a 9 with a count of +7 or higher.

If surrender is not available, this number will not come up often but if it does really come up, you will have a max bet out, so perhaps you should learn it.
With a count of +8 or higher, do not split your 8's but stand on your 16.

If I did my figuring right, the odds of getting an insurance bet right 3 times in a row are closer to only about 3.6%. Plus, most civilians don't insure bad hands. I'd throw Preston out too in that circumstance.

Is that with DAS or without. It does make a difference doesnt it?

you made the wrong move, BUT it has a 50/50 effect on "the rest of the shoe", thus it doesnt matter.. you were right to point out the blackjack he got i do that all the time when i actually make the correct play and every1 yells at me, such as hitting/doubling my soft 18, and also, i didnt know you could hit a blackjack or a 21
 
I had a dealer make me a little nervous last night. She was asking me if I've ever played in a certain city... I wasn't sure how to answer. I said I'd played there maybe once in the last year or so. She said "Really? Only once?". So I'm starting to sweat a little. (I had been spreading 1-10, nothing earth-shattering)

Then she asks me if I play anywhere else. I couldn't figure out what the hell she was on to. I asked her why, and she finally says "I was just wondering because you're surrending quite a few hands. There's only one other guy I know who comes in here that surrenders. Just you and this one other man, no one else ever does that. That's something they do a lot of over there though."

I had surrendered a couple of 10 unit bets in a row, then a few hands later when I had spread to two hands of 7 units I surrendered a 16 and 15 against a 10.

Everyone was looking at me like I was retarded, but each time I would have busted. It was a little strange though.

Last month I walked into a 'larger' casino in Minnesota I had never been at (as if I have been to SOOOO many that statement makes ANY sense). Anyway, walked up to the cashier cage to cash out-and she recognizes me from a performance she and her daughter saw of mine at her daughter's school 4 years ago in another town!

Couldn't decide whether to be flattered that she would remember me (she also remembered I was from OHIO), annoyed because I had to listen to the crap about 'magicians and card playing', or upset because it was going to be REALLY hard to tell her anything but the truth!
 
Forgot to post this. The other night a guy at third was taking "saving the table" way too seriously. He would have 14 against a 3 or even a 6, and say "I don't want to, but I have to take a card", so he'd hit. A couple of times he busted and saved the table, and guys were thanking him for doing it, etc, which of course increased how often he did it. He was hitting friggin' 16s against the dealer's 3-6. Unbelievable.

I actually said "you don't have to take a card!" at one point, but then decided to just shut my yap. He probably helped me as often as he hurt me. It was just so hard to see a guy hitting those hands like that, I couldn't help myself.

That terrible player will help you sometimes and hurt you others and it will even out, but the one person he will consistantly hurt is himself.

um, yes there is an "always" in gambling.. as in always follow basic strategy and math.. some people talk about how "u might win or lose, its random" and "u can do all the math u want, ur gonna lose anyways" but those people are ploppys and it appears you are one of them.. you say "i stand corrected" and "happy now" but then you claim u did it on purpose? sounds like that was a cover for stupidity

It also doesn't take into account a betting spread. But then again if you aren't counting chances are you aren't employing much of a betting spread so I guess that would be null and void.

what the hell does betting spread have to do with making the correct move? im going to hit a 13 vs a 10 even if i have $100 or $5 out
