Finn, I know all of the ins and outs but do not get to play much. As I stated in my post, calculating the TC is to me the most difficult thing for me to do. I do use the discard pile but wanted to make sure that this is the easiest way.

I know most of you leave the table when the TC becomes negative. However, if you would be playing at a negative TC at a table where surrender is offered at what point does it become better to take a hit rather than surrender? Thanks.

So do you suggest I play rated or unrated? I am traveling with my wife and she will occasionally play with me also. Thanks for the numbers. I have found estimating the TC to be one of the toughest parts of counting. Do you guys look at the shoe or the discard pile to best estimate the TC?
