The ONLY reason I play is for the money. The ONLY reason why I practice my @#$% off. If this doesnt do it for you anymore, find something else.
That's how I view it as well.
I enjoy playing BJ. One of the reasons I don't play for higher stakes is that a bad trip at higher stakes mightlessen the fun I get out of it.If i'm playing $5-50 and have the inevitable streak where you drop 20plus units,i don't break a sweat.Were I playing Green,I don't think I'd be so nonchalant about it.

No doubt, about it, 6D is not near as exiciting as single or double deck!
Above and beyond that, their tough to count and beat! Wonging is an essential aspect in requiring positive results.
Ive been experimenting with alternative betting for these games but the results werent what i expected, thus far.
Now im trying a straight 1:20 spread. 5 units. +3 5u, +4 5&5, +6 10&10[L1]
This actually seems to be working, thus far!
Theres nothing wrong with taking a break! As a matter of fact most of us
should! I actually enjoy practicing. I find it quite relaxing and entertaining.
After the 6D game has drained all the life out of me, i practice up on my 2D game to get some of those seratonin levels back to normal.

I would normally agree, but now I'm not so sure.
I just got back from a session where the 6D shoe went very positive after one or two decks. I then went about 2.5-3 decks where the RC (KO) was above the "maximum bet" level, but otherwise didn't really fluctuate that much.
In other words, I ended up riding out over half a shoe with max bets, and the big cards never really came. In hindsight, it was pretty exciting. (and slightly expensive).
You can't strap yourself to a freight train if you're just playing SD or DD.
(But I still prefer them).

You clearly were not playing with a "paying dealer". Watch out for that next time!

I know, and you would believe the bets I got into with my cover plays! (I actually did overbet one hand today, I shoved out a pile of greens, and it won, and when it paid I realized I had bet $300 instead of my $250 max. Oops).
... oh, and the point that I may have failed to drive home in my previous post: Because the RC did not change substantially, it meant I was playing through a couple-few decks with a dealer, heads-up, with maximum bets, and it ended up being little more than wild-ass gambling.

Backcounted a 6d game a couple nights ago. Count gets to 22 by mid shoe(adjusted IRC of -14/KO-P). I win just over 100 units. Neat thing was the count did not get below 18, as I was the guy(2 others at table)getting all the snappers/paint. Their was nothing boring about this, but, its not like it happens alot though. Their are lots of moments where patience is a virtue in the world of shoe games. The dd games in my area are not worth playing, so I stick with what is worth(barely)playing. Point is, their are opportunities in shoe games, and, I agree with the Rhino; pos counts can hang around for long stretches as well. If you find a 6d with great pen and solid rules, give it a ride. The opportunities will present themselves. By the way, I almost didnt count that table, as the casino was 15 min away from closing, and I was tired. Had a gut feeling...(haha)

took me two years and a fair sized negative fluctuation to get to that point. thats where i came up with this fuzzy count approach. trying to make more of a sport of the game to make it more fun, less drudgery and hopefully the money will still come.
I had a 6D shoe a few weeks ago where I was down to my last chips in play (not including those I pocketed along the way.) TC had just hit +1.5, so I push out all I had on the table ($62.50.) Dealer wishes me luck. I won that hand, and the count kept going up and up. I won the next 8 hands in a row ujntil the shoe ended, and kept all the chips in play until I hit $250, then kept it at that level. Just wished I kept doubling each time. The "retrospectoscope" is great, isn't it?
It seems like it would have to be the thing you like most in the world. If your goal is really to maximize the expected value of the logarithm of your worth a la Kelly, it seems to me you would do better to invest that bankroll, enjoy life NOT in the desert, and be a professional ice cream taster or nipple tweaker or whatever really floats your boat. I don't know of any work other than perhaps small business owner where you have a 5% chance of going bankrupt. I guess maybe I don't have the entrepeneurial spirit I wished I did.
