Basic Strategy from a dealer

Couldn’t believe I heard what I heard a dealer say last night.

Situation:

Me: A-2
Dealer: 2

I hit.

The other players at the table were saying I should have doubled. I thought it’s a straight hit, so I hit. The dealer said it was the wrong move to make.

I thought it’s a hit but when a dealer is so adamant about my “mistake” it shook me for a few moments. So, during the shuffle I consulted my trusty chart aaaaaand, gawldarnie I was right!

I now pick up the conversation with the dealer and it went something like this:

Me: “you know the Book says A-2 versus a 2 is a hit not a double.”

Dealer: “The Book is only useful when playing head’s up.”

Me: “Wha? Wha? What?”

Dealer: “Yep. That chart is only useful when you’re playing one-on-one with the dealer. It’s useless when there are other people at the table playing.”

Me: “Well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree.”

He didn’t say anything after that.

And neither did I.

WTF?

Haha! I remember I had a dealer tell me that one of the plays I made was wrong. I can’t remember what it was (double 10v8 maybe). I told him it was basic strategy. He says it isn’t. Maybe the “aggressive version” of basic strategy (lol WTF?!). So I tell him to simply check a chart when he goes on break. He says he doesn’t need to check because he’s been dealing this game for years. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Ugh. Lol

The casinos like their dealers stupid. The best dealer is one that's barely smart enough to deal the cards. A sharp dealer can do a lot of damage so it's best to keep them stupid.

The best response to these idiots is to agree that they are correct and say you deviated because you "just had a feeling". You should thank your dealer for assisting in your cover. Great + to cover making you look like a gambler.

Who cares is the dealer is right or wrong? I sure do not need to make it an issue and confirm that I am well versed in the correct plays.
