El Cortez is amazing, but risky

I was at the $5 DD, amazing pen.

Swinging to $25 max.

Casino Manager comes over to the table and takes a seat. Grills me and tells me if I bet over $5, we got problems.

I collect my 350% return, cashout and flee. I didn't feel like I was being conspicuous. (And to reiterate, this wasn't the floor mgr, this was the casino manager.)

Long story short, El Cort is heaven if you can last long enough.

I'm going to guess it was late afternoon /early evening.

I've had my greatest spreading opportunities on the graveyard shift. Both the pit and the dealers appear to be in a trance much like the Night of the Living Dead. Perhaps they are thinking about that one glorious day when they land a job on the strip and can finally leave that hole.

I got that same vibe late at night, it was spooky.

A 5-25 spread will still beat a DD game with good pen... but it definitely won't make you rich.

$25 may be a high water mark in "sweaty".

Thing is, ElC is the last place I know of *in* Vegas with a true 3:2 on DD and SD. I was speaking with Bill, Either Pit Mgr or higher, when there in Feb and he wants it that way. It's good for business he said to me...as I drifted past to Roulette ($0.50/$2.00 and a deal there if you know how to spread the inside).

And the best thing is since the kids have taken over? You can breathe in there!!!

Had dinner at Hugo's Cellar (Four Queens) a couple weeks ago and a nice middle aged lady I sat next to at the bar was raving about dinner they had at El Cortez.
I've never been in the place but I was surprised to hear that because of things I've read about it. Abberation or the norm?

The steakhouse in the El Cortez is one of Vegas's hidden treasures. Although they recently went to an ala carte menu, it's still a much better bang for your buck than the strip.

As far as BJ goes, I've been spreading $3- $40 for the last several years with no real heat. The one time a pitboss was hounding me, I hit an A7 vs 6 and doubled down for less, $2 instead of $3 and he pretty much left me alone after that.

Lots of 3:2 DD only ElC and 4Q have full pay SD.

Hugo's Cellar is a gem. Great hot rocks.

Roberta's inside the El Cortez is a very good restaurant, especially considering what else is downtown! Of course, it tastes even better when it's comped. I've been there twice and food was very good and the service was above average both times. Also, I have played numerous hit and run sessions at the EL Cortez and never had any heat.

Robertas is now The Flame, Cafeful kitty's is now Cafe Cortez. Same great food, same easy comps. Thankfully they shut down the truly awful breakfast buffet.

I don't know why everybody complains about the EC being so sweaty. Sure, some of the PCs are intimidating there, but I played away with a little intelligent cover and received no problems. I was winning on all of my sessions, too.

Note that I was spreading enough to get checks play called, which isn't hard, but I still had no problems.

Throw a single or two on that side bet once in a while, especially when a PC is near. That's cheap cover. Of course I got a royal match twice during my sessions. Naturally, it wasn't when I had the bet out...

The Spaniard just requires a bit of finesse. I am a stereotypical looking card counter and received no heat whatsoever.

Now Main Street Station, on the other hand, I got some heat there. I got out of dodge because my 1-8 spread on that half shoed no DAS doubledeck wasn't worth it. I wandered in there expecting to find the same good games the other Stations had. Boy was I in for a surprise.

Is not a member of the Station Casinos chain. It's owned by Boyd Gaming, which owns the Coast chain, Sam's Town and several other downtown casinos.
