Aren't the shoes made with more than 1 slot. I was at sands couple weeks ago saw i dealer cut off 1/2 shoe and another cut off what looked like 1 - 1.25 deck.

YIKES 1/2 shoe!!! I wouldn't walk away, i'd RUN!!!

never saw a multi-slot shoe

I have seen the good guys use the slot and then slant the cut card backwards toward deeper penetration. BTST, I have seen the bad guys slant it the other way toward a two deck cut. I can think of simple ways to force the slot to be used correctly, but my lips are sealed. I will continue to keep a lookout for the good guy/gal dealers.

Dump

Why didn't anyone mention Harrah's Chester Casino is in the ghetto? What a dump that place turned out to be. I was afraid to buy in with anything over 500 bucks. Definitely didn't feel safe and had like 5 guys eyeballing my stack of black chips. Never going back there.

Chester is a ghetto, but the games are good. If you feel squeamish, there are lots of precautions you can take. Have security escort you to your car. Take along a buddy with you. Play daytime. Use the valet service. Whatever. It's a good place to play blackjack. And it's closer to DC than AC where the games are not so good and the dangers just as great, maybe more so, whether you know it or not.

Exactly, plenty of casinos are not in great neighborhoods but the amount of cash an AP handles makes him a target anywhere, and the same personal security procedures should be used there as anywhere. Awareness of where you are and who and what is going on around you goes a long way.

A little martial arts training never hurts either.

I went to Harrahs Chester for the first time recently. Being blind in one eye I have to focus on the road but I wouldnt describe the area as a ghetto. Rather I would describe it as an industrial area. A ghetto is a neighborhood. An industrial area is a place were blue collar industry is. Maybe I drove past many homes and didnt notice but I really didnt get the idea many people lived there. I am a big broad shouldered guy that carries himself with confidence. I can usually go anywhere without much worry because I dont look like easy prey. The hunters dont stalk me so maybe my perception is different from most people.

You are exactly right. It is by no means a ghetto, just industrial. There's a prison next door, but I assume that it keeps the bad guys in where they belong. And it may not be so blue collar - a prominent employer is Boeing.

I don't know where you drove, but I've seen better housing in ghettos than where my GPS guided me. Now, OTOH I did not see an signs of criminal activity, just utter poverty.

Aslan, you're totally right. There are two different approaches you can come in on depending which exit you get off on. Heading north on I-95 you get off on Exit 8 I believe and drive through the waterfront industrial area. Or there is another exit south of there that, in fact, leads you through the ghetto.

As far as the casino goes, I agree with the general sentiment that BJ games aren't bad despite the "ambiance". Still a decent place...been there 3 times since beginning of May and haven't had much problem finding low-populated tables.

From the inside it looks just like any other Harrah's. They even have a functioning Diamond Club. Can't complain about it too much.

Now Sugarhouse... :flame:

Honestly, haven't been to Sugarhouse. What's the word on that store?
Horrible environment, crowded as hell, mediocre pen and high limits. The only advantage is it looks like it might be an easy place to pull things off in.

Thanks, AM. I do appreciate Chester's low populations in that respect.

It's my favorite store. You get points with the Harrah's comp system and get to play the great Pennsylvania rules, the best blackjack rules at any Harrah's property. I don't get heat spreading 15-200, in fact I get a lot of comps.

Poker "rakeback" is twice that in AC, $2/hour.

Very good point on the comp system. That alone is worth hundreds. On the spread, is that for 8-deck, I can't remember how many decks there.

The low limit is 8 deck. I am not sure about high limit. Pen pretty good. I saw 1 shoe about 1 deck cut out. 2 shoes at close to 2 maybe 1.85 decks. The rest were right around 1.5 decks.

Harrah's Chester is in the ghetto.

I'd say Harrah's Chester is in the ghetto when you accidently drive off the route getting there, within minute(s) from the casino, and stumble into backroads with official street signs stating, "Warning, High Drug Traffic Area".

Can't remark on casino recent conditions as it has been sometime since I've last gone. Favorable rules as required by law, penetration seemed typical 75%. $10 tables available and able to get a spot w/out much of a wait, if any, on a weekend morning/ afternoon. Definetely not an overcrowded place, especially when compared to PARX, or Sands, PA. Haven't been to PARX or Sands in a while too though.

Who paid for the signs, the Chester Chamber of Commerce?

I had the misfortune of staying overnight in a motel about a mile from Harrah's Chester. I couldn't step outside for a cigarette without being accosted by bums looking for handouts. They literally hang around the motel entrance waiting for guests. But I guess it's not so bad - they'll offer you a swig from the mystery drink inside their brown paper bag if you give them $5 toward a six pack.
