Las Vegas Club

I wasn't sure where to post this but thought it funny enough to put "somewhere!"

My son, son-in-law and I were wandering Fremont St last night (this morning?) just people-watching, drinking beer and looking for a table with 3 empty spots where we could sit down for a while.
We finally found it at Las Vegas Club (LVC) on a double deck shoe game. They deal face up of course, DOA, DAS, RSA, and dealer hits soft 17's.

At the table, there was a Canadian and another young couple. I sat at 3rd next to the guy who was not the Canadian. He was drinking pretty heavily and was betting I guess to impress the girl he was with...probably $75 or $80 bucks a hand. The Canadian was betting pretty heavily also. And, they were losing their butts!

My son and son-in-law are not very well versed in basic strategy so I was helping them with their decisions and making no effort to hide the advice from either the dealer or from the pit critters. We were just betting nickle chips on the $5 table. I saw the guy next to me and his girlfriend making horrible basic strategy errors even on the most simple hands. Finally, this guy asked me what to do on a couple of hands and the advice paid off for him. After that, both he and his lady were asking me what plays to make on virtually every hand.

So, here I was, virtually playing MY hand, my son's hand, my son-in-law's hand, AND the hands of the couple sitting next to me. Everyone was winning (I was counting, but only giving basic strategy advice without regard to the count). This went on for a couple of "shoes" when I noticed that there were two suits standing there watching the table closely and whispering between themselves and occasionally, to the dealer! Then there were THREE of them hovering over the table!

And, they were NOT watching the heavy bettors, they were watching ME and I was betting only red chips! We got tired of playing after about an hour and colored up. As soon as I left the table the Pit Bosses left the area and the heavy bettors started losing again. They never said anything to me but they were surely making my son (on first base) nervous <LOL>

Wonder how long I would have been allowed to stay had I been spreading my bets?

Card counting team strikes LVC!

No casino will look favorably on a team of APs, and you were the obvious ringleader!

Speaking of which, for some reason I thought you weren't a counter. Was I wrong, or have things changed?

I'm what you might call a "casual counter." I'm not serious about it yet. I've practiced enough on simulations and self-dealt hands that I can no more keep from tallying the count on a face up game than I can help breathing. But, I don't go into a tail spin if I lose count during a round and I'm using a very simple KO Rookie system. I'm not taking advantage of the full spread (KO calls for either a bet of 1 unit or 5 units depending on the count...nothing in between). When I do use it, my spread is more like 1:3. I was NOT spreading my bets during the session I was describing.

1-3 will NOT cut it except in the best of 1D games. zg
I well know that ZG. Remember, I said I was a very casual counter. I don't have the bankroll to take it very seriously. About all I play in Vegas is the double deck tables. The single deck I've seen has such horrible pen that wouldn't touch it with BS even.

My guess would be that with your knowledge of Vegas and BJ you'd be a pretty good card counter and able to take advantage of some of the comps. Perhaps your wife could invest some of her slots money into a BR for you and you could give it a try.

Well ETG, I wouldn't want to risk a BR using KO Rookie <LOL>. Let's just say that I'm a counter in training who is gathering information in preparation for a later investment. Certainly, I've laid the groundwork to avoid much scrutiny from a LOT of casino Pit Crews <grin>. While my play sometimes defies BS (because of unusual deck conditions) the bets remain pretty much penny-ante. The crews probably think that when I do put out a large bet, it's because I'm ready to walk away and am just stacking what I've won on one "last bet". Of course, when I win that bet, I "have" to play another shoe.

I pulled that act at California Club this past weekend and walked away after 3 hours with enough to buy a couple of packs of cigarettes <grin>.

My son, son-in-law and I sat down at an empty table at LVC Sunday night. This is the same place (different dealer and different shift than in the original narative) that I got a lot of heat for giving BS advice. The dealer was Asian and didn't speak Engilsh very well and was "all business". I gave her our first names and told her there was going to be a test later on. We joked around, got even the pit boss involved in the joking around. After she came back from a break and before she dealt the first hand, the three of us set a dollar each behind out bets and ask her what our names were. She got them right so we pushed the tokes out to her. This cracked up the pitt boss as well as the dealer! But what it really did was divert their attention. We didn't bet hugely, but when the count was high, I would signal my son and son-in-law and we would raise our bets until the count went back down. To all appearances, they were just following my lead. It was obvious to the crew that the two with me were beginners and looking to me for advice on how to play BS.

We didn't break the bank. But all three of us came away with quite a bit more than we started with and played for a couple of hours and had fun in the process and that was the image I wanted to project.

Enough of that! Count or get off the table! zg
