stupidest play you've seen?

Wow! You guys are good. I estimate a little over 1% of my hands are errors (that's the ones that I catch, "Darn, missed that, I shoulda ....").
Don't have stats on how many of the errors actually turn into wins. I would guess I would guess about 1/3, at least of the ones I could tell what would have happened with next card etc.

Standing on soft 15 and 16 are frequent. Lately have seen many standing on hard 5 and 6 (don't want to take the dealer's bust card)!! Must be in the water.
My best was hitting a hard 19 vs dealer 10 up.
Yep, had to hit, she'd pushed the wrong button when checking for ace in the hole and flipped over her hole card thinking it was an ace. Only it was another 10.
We all busted out.....

I think I've honestly made less than 5 playing errors in all the time I've played blackjack in casinos. I think it's because I played a million or so hands of basic strategy back when I was whoring bonuses, so it's almost a function of my limbic brain.
That said, I did accidentally stand on a 15 against a ten a few weeks back...

LOL I made a similar mistake recently. It was a pitch game and the dealer had an ace up. He asked for insurance and everybody declined. For some reason I tucked my cards and never looked at them. Dealer makes his hand and starts flipping over the player's cards and paying/collecting. I suddenly said " I don't remember what I have." he flipped mine over and there was a 3 and a 4. I had tucked a hard seven. Boy did the table give me a hard time. The dealer laughs and said' "They'll catch that at the face up games over there!"

I wonder if the dealer would have had a stiff if the pit would have called it a dead hand or let us back out of the hand? Anyone had any experience?

Since they invert the cards when placing them into the tray, we all could now see she had 18. She called the pit boss over and he said to play it out.
The two 20's and the 18 on the table stayed but I busted out my 17.

One of the stupidest plays I ever saw was from one of the guys who came with me to Atlantic City. He went down for double on a hard 12 and busted. I think he was hoping to get lucky in which case he thought we would be impressed that he knew an 8 or 9 was coming. lol Go figure! Changing and paraphrasing something Art Linkletter used to say, "People do the darnedest things!" lol
HockeXpert's example takes the prize, hands down. Bad plays like standing on A4, which are almost routine in some of the places I play, aren't even close. I've seen comparable situations, in which the dealer exposes the next card, and a player hits KNOWING he will bust, or doesn't take a hit KNOWING the card will help him. I guess people feel obligated not to take advantage of information that they're "not supposed to know." It's pretty hard to do worse than a minus 100% expectation play, although if you really work at it you could probably come up with something even more suicidal.
This isn't as bad as the ones others have posted but I saw a guy yesterday stand on a soft 15 vs. dealer 10. The whole table was telling him including the dealer, to hit it. He was second to act so it's not like he could have been thinking he'd take a dealer bust card especially when I was doubling down. The guy felt like an idiot too because he would have had 20 if he had hit it. Apparently some people either are too stupid to do basic math or love parting with their money.
