Tell if jumping in mid-shoe with a high count is a viable strategy

You are referring to six deck, correct? I've never heard of anyone getting upset with someone for coming into the game on a six deck. That's what everyone just does. Gamblers and APs alike. Standard procedure in any casino I've ever been to (mostly Laughlin, Vegas, and Arizona).
Happens all the time. Some casinos even forbid mid-shoe entry.

Wonging

A very well known BJ celebrity has been banned from a number of fine games not from his play but from his rudness in wonging in. He would literally run around the pit and dive in every time I raised my bet to the point that I even had to tell him to keep his a## out,... and he was a friend:laugh::laugh:

Really? Not that I don't believe you by any means, I'm just curious, where are these casinos? I'm very surprised to hear there are casinos that bar mid-deck entry in six decks. Seems like a bad business plan since it takes so long to shuffle and a lot of people might not want to wait.

Not uncommon. They do it to stop back-counting. Much less common are casinos that bar entry after a certain point in the shoe.

In the mid-west, it's typically considered rude to interrupt a shoe in progress.

I've been hearing that many Vegas Casinos have put rules down that bar anyone from jumping in mid-shoe to prevent wonging; I think I've heard Harrah's did this?

EDIT - I've been doing a bit more research but I haven't found any info team play when it comes into jumping into shoes unfortunately. Though, the MIT Blackjack team did play back when the rules were different.

Well yes; it IS a bad business plan. It's a HORRIBLE business plan. It just goes to show the paranoia of the casinos. I'm quite sure that it costs them MUCH more to make people wait (and possibly LEAVE) than they could possibly save by stopping the occasional counter from popping into a shoe. And if they were smart enough to just hire competent pit bosses in the first place, the card counters wouldn't last long anyway.

I guess that's what they mean by the old expression: "Cutting off your nose to spite your face".

However, the casinos HAVE been very successful into brainwashing the suckers into believing that NMS is "in consideration of all players", which explains why the prevailing belief has somehow recently evolved into "It's rude to interrupt a shoe in progress".

Yeah, RIGHT - The casinos are doing something that benefits US, even though it's costing THEM money.:laugh:

This is especially true in a high limit room. When you have a counter Wonging in on $1K ploppies with $300 bets, depending on how bad the ploppies are he may be saving the casino money.

I was in Vegas for two weekends over the last month (mostly strip) and saw nothing about not being able to enter a 6 deck shoe mid game. I don't think it would be an effective plan in Vegas because of the large variety and options in playing blackjack. If a Vegas casino made people wait several minutes for a new shoe, they'd probably just walk to the next casino.

I didn't try to play Harrah's because their games usually sucked, so it's possible they had it, but I didn't see anything when I was in there.

...though I'm at odds how one is to jump in mid-shoe without irritating other patrons or taking on heat from the dealer...
Just sit down and an empty seat and get out your money. You might want to ask if the other players mind if you jump in. It's not required, but considered by some as a "common courtesy."

Note that at some places you can't do mid-shoe entry.

From my observation

Jumping in mid shoe has different sets of rules for different people.
Example "attractive women" are allowed to jump in at any point of the shoe. Old Old guys that are a little slow or hard of hearing or pretend to be hard of hearing or slow... well they can jump right in too, but not quite to the extent as for mentioned woman. Did i say jump right in Sagefrog!!!!!
Now the young punks say 21 to 30,,,forget it not a chance. Then the 31 to 50ish crowd....whew they got it tough too.....
I always wondered about the special "people", and the blind.
Now super fat lard asses ,,, they are really never welcomed in my book ,,, i'm talkin the double stoolers!!! lol
Also it is dependent on the players..like a couple of hells angels biker dudes...ya gonna ask or ya gonna just sit down????
So it boils down basically like life in general..... Hot attractive women get all the perks!!!!!
And the rest of us schmucks ..........................well just schmucks.....:p
But what the hell do i know.... I aint never played no blackjack lol
Does Ocp count?????

Hi,

3) How does one manage to enter a shoe in the middle without angering other players or taking heat?
Something the poster above me made me think of, I usually try to get the players/dealer to like me when I sit down. I'm sure that affects, to a degree, how they feel about you entering. Usually try to smile, be friendly, somewhat enthusiastic (not to much though lol). Make sure to tailor it to the person you are talking to though (you don't want to be enthusiastic to someone who looks like they're down 10k and about to jump off a building). You ever work in sales? The same way you greet a new customer I guess. I always spend some effort on trying to make the table like me because I feel like that reduces player heat, and might help you influence the dealer a bit more (getting them to deal one more hand before shuffle on a high count when there's only one card left before the cut card).

Also, I usually try to do the same thing with the pit boss and keep a good conversation going with him whenever he is around. Not sure how they catch counters, but if the pit bosses try to count the deck too and then judge your play, I feel like maintaining a good conversation with him might prevent that. Plus you might get better comps if the pit boss likes you.
