Hey, I'm new to Card Counting and am currently working on perfecting it but will need to know which casinos in the UK you can do it. I went to the ricoh arena which is my closest one but only had automatic shuffling machines where the dealer dealt a deck then mixed it back in. Just as a side not there were more tables but wasn't too busy so these weren't being used. Will the deal from a shoe at a busier time? Or is there a site or an app I can use to get this, please do let me know.

Hmmm . . . . I think you've come to the party a tad late to be honest. The number of shoe-dealt, exploitable, games in the UK now can be counted on the fingers of both hands - as a result of all of the main operator chains electing to go with Dysons on their blackjack tables. The few that still offer traditional shoe-dealt games are the more up-market venues in the Capital, and you can be sure that as these places attract the better off punters from overseas when they visit the capital their games will be scrutinised to the nth degree. I have been told tales of visitors from overseas being offered a complimentary membership to a posh house-of-chance only to find it had been suspended when they returned for a second visit within a few days.

The last time I visited a Grosvenor venue, they did have a shoe-dealt game (with normal UK ruleset) but it came with a £25 min. There was only one person playing, with a stack and a half of black ones sitting in front of him, and his play was being watched by the floor inspector - usually they spend their time watching the croups for payout errors.

You might get away with asking if they'll open a table with a shoe (as your luck always goes south early on when you play against a Dyson) but unlikely they'll give a toss unless you have a pile in your hand that you're prepared to put on the line. They ain't going to do anything special for punters betting at a tenner a hand. If you do pull this off, expect to be watched and nailed once you start spreading your bets.

Good luck (wherever you play) !

I've never seen foreign currency allowed at the tables, anywhere. Think about it . . . how would the poor old croups know how much to pay out in local currency chips? You may find you can change up your Euros at the cashiers counter.

I believe it may be possible to exchange foreign currency for chips, with the same exchange rate being applied in both directions, meaning you avoid the costs that would be involved in other methods of currency conversion. (But I can't say for a fact that this is the case.)

Many years ago I played a casino in Curacao where two distinct sets of chips were used on each table: one set was denominated in U.S. Dollars; the other in Netherlands Antilles Florins. Players received chips denominated in whichever currency they used to buy in, and the dealer paid the winning bets in the same currency. The nice part for me was no foreign exchange fees: when I went to the cage, I was paid directly in dollars.

Some years back I popped into a casino in a hotel in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus when on holiday there. Handed over a wad of Turkish Lira and received back just six chips and some change. What's going on? The croup didn't speak English and so the floor supervisor was called. All play at this place was in US$ and she confirmed the exchange was correct. The table min on the blackjack games was US$15.00 (at eleven o'clock on a midweek morning). Considering the place is a holiday destination it did explain why the place was dead, and there were more staff on duty than punters chancing their luck. I handed them back, picked up the Lira and walked away leaving the floor sup and croup with their mouths hanging open - quite clear that had never happened to them before (somebody walking away without playing a hand). ;)
