Hi All!,

well despite me not posting on here for a while, ive had a great last two months for total wins of $2.2k. I thought i would share something with every1 to see how others would of reacted.

Well i usually buy in for about 500 and flat bet @ $25. During the night the man next to me was doing some very strange betting....where every now and then he would do a bet for about 8 times his average unit, he won on most times. (thought he was not counting) during one particular hand he had $800 on the table and i had my $25 unit. The cards dealt were

Dealer = 5
Other Man = 14
My Cards = 8 (two fours)

i never go against basic stratergy so i put another chip out there to split the 4's....and as i did with my hand still on the chip..every1 on the table scream no and advising me against even the dealer said to me "SPLITTING fours is the worst split you can do. but i took the heat and told them all i was splitting then the man asking me again not to split i looked over and saw his $800 and my $25 and decided well if thats what he wants iii just do it because of his bet size compared to mine

I got a 10 for (18)

and dealer got to picture cards for a bust.

would you have split the 4's ?

nope, but he did give me a high five. LOL

from what i can remembe rthe next card after the 2 pictures for the dealer was a picture and i recall the words "either way" being said by me as the next cards were dealt.. so i actually would of had two hands of 14 and the dealer still would of busted with 2 pictures.
so i guess $25 from him was in order. hhaha.. he was crazy he got upto about 4k right in front of me from an orginal buy in of $800 and then lost it all in a 5 minute crazy session of bad streak. i saw him later in the sportsbook having a beer and watching the big screen

Yes, I would have split the 4s (assuming that it was a DAS game), however I would have been alert to the opportunity to collect $25 or more from the big bettor to follow his request instead. zg

Split the 4's of course, if you want to get the most out of your play. As you point out, you would have won your bet by playing correctly. Next time think about turning to the guy with the big bet and say" I'm going to split my 4's, but I'll sell you the hand for $50 and you can play it yourself." I played with a guy who was on third base playing $25 a hand. Most of the people were playing $100 and up. Everytime he got a marginal hand, 12 vs 4, etc., he would say, I'm going to hit unless you guys want to buy the hand. Three times some fools bought his hand. He was able to buy his way out of a bad hand, because some fools were afraid he was going to take the dealers 'bust' card. Since that time, I have used that strategy many times.

What card counting system do you use, and what kind of playing rules does this casino have? It would be nice of you to post them in the foreign category too, as I would like to go to Australia on vacation one day. Maybe by the time I get there I will have some good blackjack experience behind my back from the Indian Casinos here.

Splitting 4s

I run into the same thing with other players complaining when I split 4s against the dealer 5 or 6. I just explain I am putting as much money against that dealers bustcard as possible. The fact that 5,6,7,A gives you a chance on double-down on each of your hands makes this a good hand to have. If they continue to complain how I play, I am the first one to suggest they go find another table where people are playing more to their liking. Not had a fist fight yet in a casino, they normally shut-up and leave.

He doesn't count I believe, as his only local casino (mine too) is Star City in Sydney. They are CSM only.
Heres rules as far as I know:
8 Decks
Double on 9, 10 or 11.
Dealer stands on soft 17 (S17)
Split to 2 hands, including Aces
One card only on split aces
Double after split (DAS)
Blackjack pays 3:2
Insurance pays 2:1
Dealer blackjack takes Original and Busted Bets Only (OBBO)
First card from shoe burnt and not shown to players


Try other casinos in Australia

Its the only casino in the state?
The next closest is in Canberra, which is 200 miles or 3.5 hours drive south, then Jupiters on the Gold Coast, which is 590 miles or 11.5 hours drive north.

I have only played at Star City a few times, just as part of a night out. I'm thinking about trying the tournaments down in Canberra soon.

Wow. That's too bad. So you don't actually play regulary then? I saw Ken say that only 5% of the people who attempt shuffle tracking succeed.

Well, I think "the book" says split, so I would have split. I'm just an amateur who enjoys the game, but I think you have to play with the odds no matter what everyone else says. You have to be as emotionless as the cards...:rolleyes:

I see. I did know what it stood for, but I've never actually seen those things. I thought that's why it was such a low percentage that could track it. Nevermind.
