I ran into another AP I know in the casino yesterday and we were chatting about trips to LV. He mentioned he was backed off at EC raising his bet from $5 to $10

There's probably more to this story but it's not shocking that it was at EC.

I call bullshit unless he had been flat bet before hand. I'd be more bothered by the lies told about the EC until I realize that the bottom line is it keeps people away and ensures I get a seat at the best low ball game in town.

My first back-off was my first time playing at the Gold Spike, behind the El Cortez; about 30 years ago. I was just learning how to count, and was betting $1 at a double deck game. After about 10 minutes of nothing but neutral counts, the deck went very negative, so I dropped my bet to 50c. The PB immediately pushed my bet back & told me I was not welcome in his club. I asked him what I did wrong, and his response was: "You did everything RIGHT". To this day I still wonder how he could have figured it out so quickly and with so little information. (Perhaps I was moving my lips with the count? Or maybe I was just studying the cards a bit TOO hard.)

I got backed off at the Alamo in Sparks spreading $5-$20, about 8 -9 years ago.
Oh man the Alamo, that place is almost indescribable! One time I was in there spreading 2x$25 to 2x$100, literally emptied the tray and had to wait for a fill to get paid on a hand. Then I had to wait at the cage for them to open a safe and cash me out. Can't believe I got out of there without a backoff, must have timed it perfectly.

My friend got backed off going 5-20 at the spaniard. I've gotten restricted for $50 bets.

Not that unusual at that joint, with that nice DOA, LS and Ro7 game they dealt there, and then throw in that 6 card Charlie rule...so sweet. You could probably beat that game with a 2:l spread and 30 indices. The only problem there is finding the indoor plumbing.

I knew a guy who got barred for flatbetting 2x10 during a 2:1 promo. The casino was nasty about it too and told him they would be faxing his picture to other casinos.

I have a LV friend whose first backoff was at the Golden Nugget in Laughlin for spreading $1 to $10 at single deck.

1-10 is huge spread for single deck

Spreading 5 to 25 at you guessed it, the El Cortez. I was playing full indices too, which is probably what did me in. I was correct with my insurance bets several times, and I did my favorite index play (splitting tens) many times. I also picked an empty table to play instead of a full table, for obvious reasons. That's the same place I also got backed off for playing craps and having a long roll. The pit boss told me I couldn't roll anymore, and gave the dice to the next person, who immediately rolled a seven out.

Wow. These stories fascinate me. I live in Vancouver area. Never even seen a back off yet. It's a bit of a different game here with Provincial government regulations, with respect to the general atmosphere; makes casinos more user friendly.

That sounds more like drunk and disorderly, or maybe even public nudity!:laugh:

Obviously, he was recognized as an extremely dangerous threat to the casino. Had nothing to do with being drunk, or with ANYTHING he did wrong. Once you reach the upper echelon of blackjack skill, your picture gets passed around to almost ALL casinos; over and over again. Or a boss who backed you off at one casino might end up working at another one 3 months later. And this includes surveillance operators.

What are you saying? You can't get backed off in Vancouver, Canada?

Is it possible to reach the upper echelon without having your photo known by every casino?
