Single Deck Blackjack

Single deck blackjack is the best deal in the game on paper. Deal the classic rules from one deck and the edge tips to the player by about 0.15%, which is why you will almost never be offered exactly that. Casinos sell the single deck and take the value back somewhere else, usually in the blackjack payout or the doubling rules. This page shows you where to look, and lets you play a real single-deck game free.

The game above is our own practice table, dealing a real single deck on practice credits in your browser. No account, no download, works everywhere. It deals the same restricted rules the online single-deck games use, listed below, which is a good illustration of the point this page is making. Turn on the book coach and every decision is graded against the correct chart for those rules.

What one deck is worth

Same favourable rules throughout (dealer stands on soft 17, double on any two cards, double after split), priced by our motor de estrategia:

Cubiertas House edge with good rules
Una sola cubierta 0.15% in the player’s favour
Double deck 0,201 TP4T: ventaja de la casa
Seis cubiertas 0.44% house edge
Ocho cubiertas 0.47% house edge

A player-positive game is not something a casino offers by accident, so treat that first row as a benchmark you will be talked out of rather than a game you will find. What matters is which rule they take back.

Where the value goes: three things to check

  • Blackjack paying 6:5. The classic trap, and overwhelmingly common on single-deck tables in Las Vegas. It adds about 1.4% and turns the best game in the house into one of the worst. This alone is worth walking away from; see why 6:5 blackjack is a sucker bet.
  • The dealer hitting soft 17. Costs roughly 0.2% at one deck.
  • Restricted doubling. Being limited to totals of 10 and 11, or 9 through 11, quietly removes some of your best money-making hands. This is the one most players never check.

The free game above is a fair example. It keeps blackjack at 3:2, but the dealer hits soft 17 y doubling is restricted to totals of 10 and 11, which our engine prices at 0.30% rather than the 0.15% player edge the ideal single-deck ruleset carries. That is still a good game, better than most six-deck tables, but the single deck alone did not deliver it.

The rules of the table above

Regla The single-deck game as online casinos deal it
Cubiertas One, shuffled after every round
El blackjack se paga 3:2
Regla del crupier Hits soft 17
Duplicar On totals of 10 and 11 only, and allowed after splitting
Dividir Once only, to two hands
Ríndete No disponible
Seguros 2:1, and still a bet to decline

Strategy: one deck changes the chart

Single-deck basic strategy differs from the multi-deck chart in more places than double deck does, and the doubling restriction above changes it again: if you cannot double a soft hand or a 9, the chart has to tell you to hit instead. Generate the exact chart for the table in front of you with our strategy engine set to one deck, matching the soft 17 and doubling rules to what the game actually offers.

Counting and the online catch

One deck is the card counter’s dream in a land-based casino: the count swings violently and a single high card changes the whole shoe. Online is a different story. The game above, like every online RNG single-deck game, reshuffles after every round, so no count survives to the next hand and we do not put a count coach on this page: there would be nothing for it to count. If counting is what interests you, our Guía para contar cartas covers where it does and does not work, and our double deck page has a practice table that keeps the discards out of play until the cut card so you can watch a real count move.

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES

Is single deck blackjack the best game?

With classic rules it is: one deck, a standing soft 17 and doubling on any two cards puts the edge about 0.15% in the player’s favour. The catch is that games offering exactly those rules essentially do not exist; casinos sell the single deck and take the value back elsewhere.

Why do single deck games pay 6:5?

Because the deck count alone would otherwise favour the player. Paying 6:5 instead of 3:2 adds about 1.4% to the house edge, far more than the single deck is worth, which is why a 6:5 single deck table is a worse bet than an ordinary six-deck game at 3:2.

What is the house edge of the free game on this page?

Our strategy engine prices its exact rules, one deck with the dealer hitting soft 17 and doubling limited to 10 and 11, at about 0.30%. Good, but not the 0.15% player edge the ideal single-deck ruleset carries.

Can I count cards in single deck blackjack online?

No. Online RNG games including the one above reshuffle after every round, so no count carries over. Single deck counting only works against a physical deck with real penetration.
