How the counting drill works

Play each hand the way you normally would. Beside the table sits a counting panel with two tiles, Running y True, plus a mode button. While you are learning, press Show Count and the trainer keeps the count for you: the tiles update on every card and a short note tells you whether the shoe is running rich or poor. When you are ready to test yourself, press Go Blind and the numbers disappear. Now you keep the count in your head and press Check Count whenever you want a grade. The trainer asks for the running count (and the true count, if you switch that on), shows you the exact answer, and replays the cards dealt since your last check so you can see where you slipped.

Two more panels keep you honest. The Zapatos meter shows penetration and marks the cut card at 75 percent of the shoe; the trainer reshuffles automatically when it reaches the cut, exactly as a real six-deck game does, so you never practise counting cards that would never be dealt. The Sesión panel tracks your basic-strategy accuracy alongside your win, loss and push tally. Open Settings y el Contar cartas section lets you turn on Quiz True Count grading and switch on Ilustres 18, which counts the highest-value count-based deviations as correct while a counting mode is running. On a phone the same tools sit in a compact strip pinned under the top bar.

Running count versus true count

The trainer uses Hi-Lo, the most common balanced system. Every card carries a value: 2 through 6 count as +1, 7 through 9 count as 0, and every 10, face card and Ace counts as -1. Add those values as the cards appear and you have the recuento acumulado. Because the +1s and -1s are balanced across a full deck, a shoe that has been dealt fairly sits near zero; a positive count means the low cards are gone and the high cards that favour the player still remain.

The running count on its own is not enough, because +6 with one deck left is far stronger than +6 with five decks left. Convert it to the recuento real by dividing the running count by the number of decks still to be dealt. The true count is what drives every decision: how much to bet, when to take insurance, and which basic-strategy plays to deviate from. How to practise effectively

Build the skill in layers. Start with Show Count on and simply watch how each card moves the running count until the arithmetic is automatic. Then Go Blind and check yourself often, ideally after every hand at first, so a mistake never has time to compound. As you become reliable, check less often and add the true-count conversion. A realistic bar is a running count that is always exact and a true count within one of the trainer’s answer, because a single miscount can flip a betting or insurance decision the wrong way. Accuracy matters far more than speed while you are building the habit.

Do not let your basic strategy slip while you count. The Session accuracy panel is there to catch the common trap of nailing the count while quietly misplaying hands, which gives back more than the count earns. Honest expectations

Counting works, but the edge is small. Played perfectly, with good rules, deep penetration and a sensible bet spread, a Hi-Lo counter turns the house edge into a player edge of roughly one half to one and a half percent. That figure is a long-term average buried under heavy short-term swings: you can lose many counting sessions in a row even when your play is flawless. Counting rewards patience and an adequate bankroll, not a single lucky night, and a trainer removes the variance entirely so it is easy to overrate how smooth the real thing feels.

Casinos also push back. They shuffle earlier to cut penetration, deal from continuous shuffling machines that make counting pointless, watch for bet spreads that jump with the count, and are free to ask a suspected counter to leave. None of that appears in a trainer, where the shoe is honest and nobody is watching. Treat this page for exactly what it is: a place to make the count and the deviations second nature, so that if you ever sit at a real table the arithmetic is the easy part.
