Allegedly there are 10k chips at the Bellagio. But no one uses them, because it's a huge hassle to cash them.
I play high stakes in Las Vegas, so I can comment on high chips on the Strip.

Yellow is $1K standard at most casinos.

$5K varies but is usually White, Grey, or Chocolate. Have seen orange.

I have not seen 10k chips at Bellagio but they might have them. However 25K chips are common at Bellagio and elsewhere in high limit rooms. (So your statement that "no one uses them" is not quite accurate). In high limit games I regularly see patrons buy in or take out a $25K chip -- easier to carry than all the yellow or chocolate.

25K color at Bellagio is "watermelon." I think this is standard at all MGM properties in LV but not sure. I have seen 25K orange chips at Venetian.

I once saw someone buy in for $300K in watermelons at my table. And I once played baccarat with a guy betting a huge pile of watermelons.

whats good about watermelons is that nobody can steal them, or any chip higher than $500, because im sure they keep a huge eye on $1000+ chips, so if any of you out there were thinking, "a huge pile? wow if only one dropped on the floor!", that wouldnt work as as soon as you went to cash it out, you would be surrounded and they would ask where you got that, and there is a good chance that chip would be returned to the probably only player in the casino using watermelons (ya right! what am i talking about, the casino would keep it!)

They don't really keep that big of an eye of 1000+ chips depending on where you are.

I know people who regularly cash out 1000 denomination chips with no call over to the pit to verify.

Here in California we have some pretty screwed up chip colors. I remember the first time I walked into a California card room. Every table was full of yellow chips and people were betting 2-3 yellow minimum. I though “Damn, I must be in the high limit pit! Where are the regular tables?” I walked through the entire casino only to find every single table covered with yellows. I saw truck drivers, mailmen and college students buying in for huge stacks of purple and yellow. I was astounded.

It wasn’t until later that I found out that the yellow chips were actually $5 and the purples were $25. Since then I’ve noticed several other casinos with the same color scheme. What can I say? California is pretty screwed up.

This reminds me of me looking at a roulette table. LOTS of chips, LOTS of different colors; what denominations can they all be? It finally occurred to me that maybe each PLAYER gets a different color, so you can tell who made the bet. Is that how it works?

Yup. And each player's chip color MAY correspond to a different value, but that is kept track of at the buy-in.

Crazy, isn't it.

Yeah it all depends on the casino. I normally pay at the fancy places and they cash yellows with no problem, chocolates ($5k) may cause a second of pause (to check your play or markers) but they don't need to verify them. I rarely cash chocolates anyway, usually just pay markers or deposit them. $25k chips require verification everywhere but if you are in a high end casino playing big, they will call over and you won't have to wait a second (i.e., by they time you get to the cage, you are already verified).

And I've played at dives where they make you wait 20 min to verify the black chips.

What Frankie said is accurate, in case anyone needed a second opinion.

Mohegan

On their $100 and $500 min tables and on special reserve tables in the High Limit rooms they have $1k (orange) and $5K (Blue/Gray) as a norm, and I've seen $25k (don't recall the color) brought out on rare occasions.

MGM/FW maintains all their HL table trays with a minimum of $1k and $5k chips from the trips I have made.
