New Strategy Trainer available

I got an email from someone who recently launched a new site for blackjack strategy practice. My impression after a quick look is that it appears quite useful. You guys try it out and let me know what you think. It should probably be added into the free resources list.

Here's the site:

It's excellent for those who want to practice only a certain type of hand, such as splits or soft hands, since you can customize it to give you exactly the hands you want.

Counting is of no value against this one.

The Options button doesn't do anything except clear the screen, but maybe that part is still under construction.

Thanks Ken...excellent site. This is a perfect site for new blackjack players playing the game for the first time in West Virginia.

You should be able to add it to favorites from the browser menu. I'm guessing that you right-clicked inside the Java applet which didn't work.

Handy trainer there.
I do like that you can easily choose the hands that you need practice on such as pairs or soft doubles.
Very useful to set it to Challenge for practice on the ones that are harder for beginners to play correctly.

Wow, it's really thorough and customizable. Only real gripe is that it maxed out my screen's 1280 resolution. Nice learning tool. And I did 15/15 correct! I'm unstoppable!

But you know what? I kind of like the flash trainer on this site. Not as good of a learning tool, but a fairly slick presentation, it looks more like a video game. It's a better "gateway" drug into more serious study.

Wrong again. With Full mode (of course!) it does shuffle near the end of the shoe, so counting would presumably work against it.

If you haven't been there recently, it's changed! Some of our comments are quoted there as reviews. We're famous!!

I like that I can use the key board rather than the mouse. Nice feature.
I second that.
This site is only for basic strategy though? Can it also be used for counting?

Not in the sense that you can check to see if your count is correct. (As far as I know.) But you can practice your bet sizing, and, of course, your counting. Kind of like at the casino, only cheaper.

Hit Or Split Features

Hi all,

I recently developed http://www.hitorsplit.com, and (obviously) it is still a work in progress. Thanks for all the comments/suggestions/feedback.

1) Under Full mode, the shoe is actually shuffled and cards are dealt from the shoe to 70% penetration - at which point, the Deal Button says: "Shuffled...Deal?" So counting can be used for advantage play under Full mode, but the game itself currently does not keep track of the count. (I used to have a setting to track the red7 count and even alter the bet at the appropriate count by a certain multiple recommended by Arnold Snyder in Blackbelt in Blackjack, but I removed it.)

2) The Options Button is only a toggle button for displaying or not displaying the options and strategy charts.

3) Ken was correct. You can add the site to your favorites from the Menu Bar or by clicking on the white space on the site, but not by clicking on the Java Applet.

4) As you can see, the resolution, graphics, and presentation leave something to be desired, and I hope to improve that soon.

5) Here are some of the features I would like to add in order of importance. Let me know what you think of them or if you have other suggestions.

- add hall of fame (record high scores)
- improve graphics and presentation
- provide user general feedback about mistakes (eg., the site would say: "Split 99, except against a 7, T, or A" if the user makes a mistake on 99)
- add offer for insurance
- add sound effects
- add ability to play multiple hands
- add timed sessions
- add chip graphics

Hit or split

A sight that allows you to work specifically on splits or soft hands is good for the average player. However if you can specifically work on splits I think that you should be able to specify if you are allowed to double after a split or not. I play at a casino that does not allow double after a split even though I think the rules are really good at the casino I play at. I play a 1 deck full pay game that allows me to double on any first two cards but does not allow double after a split I can resplit any pair except aces which can be split once and I only get 1 card on each ace. The hundred deck works great but the single deck doesn't work as well on your sight it should just reshuffle after every hand and not ask me.

I believe there's a glitch in the H-17, SD game. I stood on A-7 v. 2 and the flag came out and told me I should have doubled.

This is a good play in an H17 game in everything but singledeck (but the trainer still flags that as a mistake even on SD)

You are correct. There was a bug. It is now fixed. I apologize for the error, but good job finding it, and thank you for reporting the problem.

More features at HitOrSplit.com

Take another look at www.hitorsplit.com if you haven't been there in a while. There are a lot of new changes, including more rule variations, added features, and a new design.

Could you incorporate the ENHC / European game for the rest of us in the world outside the US.

Or at least make it very clear to others outside the US that it is only valid for play in the US.

Unfortunatelly the trainer doesn't work for me (I installed the Java, and still nothing).

btw does the Strategy Trainer on Blackjackinfo.com works for counting ? (85% penetration, right ?). Can you train counting and bet spread ?
