Amen, brother. A-****ing-men.

On the upside, losing all that money restored my faith in God. That God was punishing me for engaging in an inherently seedy, depraved, gluttonous activity honestly seems to me the best explanation for the devastating losses I sustained.

Honestly.

There is none better.

Not one.

Forget this guy. He's just looking for a pat on the back and for someone to say, "its alright at least you tried". Well thats crap. He did it wrong and then says I know it, don't pick on me. Well then dude, don't share your problems with the public if you don't want to be critiqued. By the way I'm sure your god loves for you to start your prayers with A fu**ing men, truly a religous experience. Too bad about getting dealt crap hands, its not like any other player out there never had that happen. Maybe its just that any player worth his salt has the common sense to play with enough money to make it through the crap. Dude, grow up and do yourself a favor, don't set foot into a casino again until your mature enough to handle the consequences. I'm not into coddling crybabies so stop whining about not having money or not having an equal chance in life. Remember this kid, most people who have done great things in life and history came from nothing to achieve greatness. Look it up. By the way I looked at your very first post on this forum, you were officially quitting then too. Give it a rest.

Try to conceive of a world where BOTH of the following are true:

1. I overbet.
2. My hands sucked ass.
here's a little newslfash for you, thats the 2 reasons why almost everyone loses lol. i was real excited to start playing blackjack but i know i can only put max 1000-1500 aside now and i know thats enough, plus the games around me suck, so i have decided to just stop playing blackjack for now until i can afford it and can find a place worth playing at

No, I'm disgusted when I walk out of the casino with my pockets full, and someone else is walking out with his head down and near tears. I wish the money came from someone who gave it to me happily because I produced something of value, like it does in my full-time job.

In reality, where money "comes from" in the US is ultimately the government (The Zen Zone will have a more thorough explanation of this, I'm sure!) and we normally think of where money comes from as its most proximate source, and in the case of BJ that's the casino. But it does trouble me somewhat that their proximate source is the person sitting next to me. That's why I'm always willing to give a civilian Basic Strategy advice, if they request it. It's the right thing to do.

That's why most gamblers are kicking the curb looking for that next bankroll. In all forms of gambling most people are on a wing and prayer. I have seen some pretty extreme bankroll flucations in my day. One person I knew was one of the best sports bettors I knew. He eventually built his bankroll up to around $750,000. But in the end he fell to overbetting. Betting $5,000 didn't get the blood flowing so he had to raise the level. It's the nature of the game that gets us all.

Does the word "hyperbole" mean anything to you people?

For the record, I do NOT believe in God; and if I did, I certainly wouldn't believe he gives two shits about people's gambling (except to the extent that excessive wealth is perhaps inherently evil).

Now please, everyone: chill. :)

I wasn't aware I was whining. Is it possible to relate one's unpleasant experiences without whining? Have you ever done that? Ever heard of it, even?

And don't call me "kid." I'm 28 years old, well educated, self-reliant, and quite mature. Besides, nobody deserves to be patronized. So stow it.

Next, I deny that most people who have done great things in life and history came from nothing to achieve greatness. For every such charming success story, there are thousands of mundane tales about spoiled brats whose rich parents ensured their prosperity. There are also millions of perfectly bright, motivated, capable people who, for whatever reasons, invariably get the shaft in life. To believe otherwise is to willfully stick your head in the sand so as to avoid confronting an ugly truth (and perhaps evade accountability for it).

Fourth, I'll step foot in a casino whenever I damned well please. There's a difference between being mature enough to handle the consequences of gambling and ENJOYING the consequences of gambling. Only a lunatic would enjoy losing. Do YOU enjoy it? No? Then shut up and quit whining. I never said a word about being unable to handle the consequences of anything. Like most humans, you are guilty of hasty generalization, stereotyping, and rushing to judgment.

Fifth, I don't believe in God. I was exaggerating for comedic effect. I guess you didn't pick up on that. Oh, well.

Sixth, in the game of blackjack, some crap lasts longer than other crap. Did you consider the possibility that, quite irrespective of my bankroll, I encountered a particularly, unusually long run of crap? No? Then shut up.

Seventh, I didn't say in my first post that I was "quitting." I said I had suffered a serious setback and might have to give up on card-counting if my luck didn't turn around soon. There's a difference. Learn to read.

Eighth, I didn't ask people not to pick on me. I asked them not to tell me things I already know. What, then, was the aim of my initial remarks? Just to vent, obviously. Isn't that at least one of the purposes for which this message board was created? To afford people an outlet through which to vent? If not, I extend my sincerest apologies for violating list protocol. So, too, I hope, will the other 2,000 people whom I've seen vent on here.

Best of luck to you. (But if you lose, don't come crying to us.)

I'm still curious as to how much you were betting when you won that first $1000 quickly.

Well, I did consider that, but then I did the math, and it looked like you had been playing for 3 weeks, so I discounted it.

It was NOT "a particularly, unusually long run of crap".
On the contrary, it was a modest dip. zg

Oh I'm sorry did you say something? Yeah, you're right you don't whine too much. I must admit I made an error in thinking you quit in your first post, it was your 2nd where you officially called it quits....sigh. Oh, and thank you for asking and answering all those questions for me in your last rant...er..post. Just for the record chuckles, I've seen more good and bad in this game then you could cry about in a lifetime, which I'm sure you would, so don't worry your overly emotional self about me. The last thing I'll tell you there Bud is, you have not even scratched the surface of what it means to lose at this game. There are those that are better than you that can actually have losing years. God forbid that happened to you, it would be time to talk you off the ledge. Of course losing sucks, but how you handle it is what will make or break you in this or any game. As for your pathetic cries of unfair life woes, heres a free tip from someone who knows. Life is based on 10% of whats handed to you and 90% on how you handle it. Its pretty clear how you're doing there. Maybe you should tell less people to shut up and start manning up yourself. Now go throw a tantrum and start punching the keys on your keyboard to tell me how much of an ass I am. Tough love bro, just call me your big daddy MAZ.

10% what's handed to you and 90% how you handle it, huh? Where'd you get those statistics from, your ass? Funny how you believe in precise figures when it comes to blackjack, but when it comes to justifying your harsh judgments of others, mere anecdotal evidence (in this case, your own subjective observations) will suffice.

And since when is how somebody handles defeat - or, more generally, handles what he's "handed" in life - NOT determined, at least in large measure, by his upbringing and genes? Can one exercise control over either of those? Do you honestly believe somebody born into a poor, uneducated, unconnected inner-city family has even remotely the same opportunities to get ahead as somebody born into an affluent suburban family full of doctors, lawyers, and politicians? If so, you really need to take your head out of the place where you got those figures. Just because 1 in 10,000 people inspiringly defies the odds doesn't mean he should have had to, or that others in his situation reasonably can.

Pretty clear how I'm doing handling life? How so? You don't even know me. All you know about me is that I lost some money playing blackjack. Perhaps unlike you, however, blackjack isn't my life. In fact, it's but a very, very small part of my life. Otherwise I'm quite successful, currently on the verge of obtaining a graduate degree.

As for all those who are better than me and lose more than me, I sympathize with them. (You, apparently, just call them assholes.) It does seem distinctly possible, however, that they're both excellent card-counters and hopeless gambling addicts. Do you really think most card-counters are just in it for the money? You don't think the thrill of the bet keeps them going back to the tables? Pshaw.

Just remember that at least sometimes, but not very often overall, it's based on real counting that is often a guess, give or take 4 or 5 RC's, and hopefully not reversed as I wonder was that "plus" or minus" last round? If I remember at all the going-forward count after 10 minutes of the usual crap at the table.

I'm scientific - none of that pansy-ass Fuzzy Counting crap for me
all kidding aside i really do think how you go about your betting is a novel approach and a good jumping off point so to speak if you might sense you have an especially advantageous gamble should you be so inclined.

No, there is no thrill in the bet. That's why we gravitate towards games with late surrender; the ability to pull half a bet back and not take a chance does wonders for our win rate. Being an AP who gets a thrill from betting is like being a gynecologist who gets a thrill from seeing a girl's pussy. If you still get turned on by this, you can easily get distracted from what you're supposed to be doing and it's going to get you in trouble.

It's possible for an AP to have a gambling problem, but not when playing BJ. If you go into that mode when playing BJ you'll never make a profit.

I really don't know why everyone is being so hard on this guy. He's acknowledged that he was overbetting. And it sounds to me like he did have a particularly bad run of cards. I mean, he obviously didn't have an average run and he certainly didn't have a good run.

So why not lay off the guy and say, "Yeah man, sucks things didn't go better for you."
