stupidest play you've seen?

Your point was never missed, in case you think I missed it. I was merely pointing out the fact that ploppies have a penchant for grabbing defeat out of the hands of victory...and not only their own! The odds do not change; they just aren't what they could have been. I am not talking about the cards themselves either, as you did, but the odds. They didn't "take" my cards; they altered the odds of me getting the cards I wanted. Had they drawn a five and a three, they would have increased my odds, but the odds were that they wouldn't, because in the one case the odds favored then drawing tens and in the other, it favored them drawing at least one ten. So, in the case I described, they did not have just as much chance of favoring me as they did of harming me. Capisce?

Exactly my point, Aslan.

I was tempted to post this under most ridiculous deer error but realized this wasn't even close. I've had the good fortune of much more ridiculous errors than this. Shhh!

This one was both the stupidest and most costly play I've seen all in one. I had chosen this particular dealer bc they dealt like they really weren't paying much attention but not like a robot. I felt I may get the chance to exploit them at some point.

This ploppy who looked homeless but was betting black has $500 out. Dealer flips up an A and the ploppy has 13 and is the second to react. Someone slides out an insurance bet and the dealer immediately gives them an 8! The fp is called over and says that the 8 will be the next card dealt. Well the player first to act has a 20 so they stand. I give the ploppy with 13 $500 and insist that they double. This person gets righteous and refuses to double claiming that would not be fair to the casino!

All the other ploppies were even smart even to scream at them to double and I get the one who is too clueless. I can laugh at it now but it wasn't funny at the time.

The sweetest part is that I returned days later to see the righteous ploppy betting $15! I told them "see. The casino didn't care about being fair to you" and walked away laughing.

Yesterday with a dealer face showing I saw some guy who must have felt like nothing can stop him split 4's and double down on a 6 and an 8 getting a 16 and 14 while the dealer flipped his 20.
Sounds like a hc misread, attempt at steering or just some drunk (optional) fool. Some "stupid" players are dumb like a fox.

A week ago, Saturday nite. Playing at the Trop in Laughlin at a table with two frat boys from USC. One sort of know Bs but the other is clueless . Guy gets an Ace/Five against a dealers King and stays, even after his bro tells him he should hit. I had busted, and his frat brother stayed on two faces. He insists on staying and of course the dealer ends up busting so he wins. He goes to high five me and tells me his bluff worked.

I saw this one on Tru TV. A guy is out of chips and apparently out of money, so he takes a bag of weed out of his pocket and places some in the betting circle...then decides he's put out too much and takes some back!
Saw that.... nice, nice.
Before I started counting, I had a bag in my pocket, but instead of playing the weed as money I just wished I hadn't wasted my money on it earlier, because I had some already! Couldn't pass up killer kush when I had rag weed!

Sounds whack to me.

I saw a guy stand on a hard 7 this week. Next hand he hit his 14 v 6. Etc. Etc. he wound up winning about $100, playing green, in 10 minutes, then left.

I just saw a ploppie doing the rediculous - hitting hard 17 and 18s. The first time he did he drew a 2, so he kept doing it and it ended badly for him... People will do anything in front of their drunken mates.

Drunks will do anything. So will losers. Often I have heard from those losing their shirts, as they double down on a hard 8 in a negative count or hit a hard 14 against a dealer 6, "I've been doing all the right things and losing. I've tried everything else; maybe this will change things." Yes, it will. As a general rule, it will accelerate one's losses. :whip:

3 Card Poker

At a 3CP table, I had a drunk civilian take the seat next to me. He had obviously never played 3CP before, so the dealer, myself, and everybody else at the table were trying to explain the concept, and BS (Q,6,4). He could not grasp that the P+ and Ante bets were independent of each other and how the play bet worked. To simplify things (and try to get in as many hands as possible) I suggested he only play P+ so he could observe and learn the game. As a few hands were played out, luck wasn't on his side, and he was increasing his bet after each loss. He kept pulling out cash every other hand, and within the span of 10 minutes, he had probably lost $500. He looked at me, said apparently this isn't my game, and left. :(

A friend of mine was once reading a loader for a BP and, as sometimes happens; they were getting their BUTTS kicked. Suddenly, his BP flipped out, decided to ignore signals and started playing exactly OPPOSITE of proper strategy! They dumped 15K more before my friend was able to pull up the play.

What makes this story so sad is the fact that this BP happened to be and still IS known as one of the best blackjack players ever, and almost everyone who frequents this site has heard of him. I won't mention his name even if someone guesses it, but here's a couple of hints: Mental illness can strike even a genius. And no, it wasn't JG; this event happened more than 30 years ago.

More like a mental lapse than full-blown mental illness. I can guess who it was, and I can also sympathize after a fashion. One thing we all share is our humanity.

At Rivers in Pittsburgh last night I saw a ploppy who refused to double down or split anything. Even 11 vs 6 or a pair of aces. Luckily she allowed me to double or split her hands with my money. I wonder how much +EV that is worth.

In Vegas I saw someone hit to 35 on a facedown game. He had 12, hit and got a 4, hit again and got a 9, hit again and got a 10, and tried to hit again but the dealer wouldn't let him hit. I had 11 and doubled down, and my double down card was an ace. It should have been the ten that he hit after he busted.

Rivers has a lot of ploppies that will either not double or double for less, that's a shitload of +EV for you right there.
