The short answer
Playing online blackjack from New Zealand is not a crime. The Department of Internal Affairs states plainly that it is not illegal for someone in New Zealand to gamble at a website based overseas, and no New Zealander has been prosecuted for it.
No site is licensed to offer it from inside New Zealand. The Gambling Act 2003 bans running remote interactive gambling from within the country, so classic casino games have always come from offshore, which is why every casino on this page is licensed somewhere else.
A licensed New Zealand market is now arriving. The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 came into force on 1 May 2026 and creates the country’s first licensed online casino regime, so the offshore market you see today is being wound down through 2026 and 2027.
