What happened to NextGen Gaming
NextGen Gaming no longer operates as a studio of its own. If you searched for it expecting a live games company, here is the honest position: NextGen was absorbed into the group now called Light & Wonder, and there is no NextGen studio, no NextGen website and no new NextGen games any more. Its old catalogue is still in circulation, but the company behind it is gone.
It started as an independent Australian slots studio, founded in Sydney in 1999, and made its name in the 2000s and 2010s on slots such as Foxin’ Wins, 300 Shields y Medusa. In 2011 it was combined with the Swedish platform business NYX Interactive, forming what became the Grupo NYX Gaming, which went on to buy the platform company OpenBet in 2016. In September 2017 Scientific Games agreed to acquire the NYX Gaming Group, completing the deal on 5 January 2018, and Scientific Games renamed itself Luz y maravilla in 2022. Somewhere in that chain NextGen stopped being its own business: its website no longer resolves, its UK gambling licence was surrendered in March 2023, and no new NextGen-branded game has appeared.

Where its games are now
Unlike some retired studios, NextGen’s games did not disappear. Its back catalogue, including Foxin’ Wins, 300 Shields, Medusa y Gorilla Go Wild, is still in circulation, but it is now distributed under the Luz y maravilla name rather than NextGen’s, and increasingly listed that way in casino lobbies. So the games are the same; the company behind them changed. You will still find them at some casinos, just not under a live studio called NextGen.
Because there is no NextGen studio to hold to account any more, and no NextGen licence, we do not run a “best NextGen casinos” list here: that would suggest an active supplier to choose a casino for, when what actually exists is a legacy catalogue sitting inside a much larger company. If you came for a specific old NextGen slot, you can still play it; if you came looking for a studio to follow, that studio is no longer there.
