Should you play it?

Lightning Storm is two games on one wheel. The Leaf bet wins 19 spins in 39 at even money and returns 97.44%, the best price in the game. The numbered spots that lead to the bonus games return 95.13%, so you pay almost twice the house edge for a shot at a big multiplier, and any one number lands only once in 39 spins.

Play it if

  • You want a near coin flip bet that returns 97.44%
  • You like long bonus rounds with multipliers up to 20,000x
  • You are fine waiting many spins for your number to land

Variance profile

High. A numbered spot loses 38 spins in 39 and its return comes in rare, large bonus wins. The Leaf is the steady exception, winning 19 spins in 39 at even money.

Bets and payouts

Wheel bets

The Leaf pays fixed even money. A number pays the multiplier its bonus game produces.

Bet Pays RTP Chance per spin House edge
Leaf 1 to 1 97.44% 48.72% 2.56%
Number 1 to 20 (each) Its bonus game's multiplier 95.13% 2.56% 4.87%

Chaser bets

These bets place chips on numbers for you during the spin, so which numbers they cover changes every round.

Bet When it wins RTP House edge
Storm Chaser Covers every number that gets the Lightning Storm bonus symbol 95.12% 4.88%
X Chaser Covers every number that gets a wheel multiplier 95.13% 4.87%

Each chance counts segments out of 39. At even money that gives the Leaf exactly the 97.44% Evolution publishes.

All Odd and All Even cover the 10 odd or the 10 even numbers in one bet. One of the 10 comes up 10 spins in 39, or 25.64% of spins, and the bonus game on that number decides the payout.

Pays shows the odds on a winning Leaf bet, with your stake returned on top. A number pays the multiplier won in its bonus game. RTP is the share of all money bet that comes back over a very long run; house edge is the rest. Neither predicts a single session.

How Lightning Storm works

Lightning Storm is a game show from Evolution built around a giant 39-segment DigiWheel spun by a host. 19 segments are Leaf segments that pay even money, and 20 are numbered spots. During each spin the wheel gives every number one of five bonus games, and landing on your number sends you into that game.

1 Leaf or 1 to 20

Place your bets

Bet on the Leaf, on any numbers from 1 to 20, or on the All Odd, All Even, Storm Chaser and X Chaser spots before betting closes.

2 Up to 50x

The wheel lights up

As the wheel spins, every number gets a bonus game symbol, and at least one also gets a random multiplier for its bonus game.

3 39 segments

The wheel stops

A Leaf segment pays Leaf bets even money. A number sends everyone who backed it into its bonus game, which decides the multiplier.

How a round runs

Betting is open while the timer runs, or while the traffic light is green in the Classic view. Then the host spins the wheel. During the spin, every numbered spot gets one of the five bonus game symbols, and at least one numbered spot also gets a random multiplier from 2x up to 50x. When the wheel stops, the flapper shows the winning segment. A Leaf segment pays every Leaf bet even money. A number sends everyone who bet on it into that spot’s bonus game.

The five bonus games

  • Hot Spot: a giant 9 by 12 wall of multipliers, with the biggest grouped together. They are hidden and shuffled, you pick a tile, then a 3×3 area travels the wall and doubles every multiplier it stops on. Top multiplier 10,000x.
  • Monster Mash: three reels for a monster’s head, torso and legs, each carrying a multiplier. Blue Regular multipliers (1 to 50) add up; golden Global ones (x4 to x6) multiply. Regular 10 legs with a x6 Global torso and a x5 Global head make 300x (10 times 6 times 5); Regular 10, 10 and 5 make 25x. Top multiplier 10,000x.
  • Battery Charger: ten batteries ride a conveyor belt, nine with Regular multipliers and one Global that doubles every battery still on the belt. A mini wheel decides each drop: red blows the battery up, green with a Regular multiplier pays the battery in the charger. If the batteries run out, the last one’s multiplier applies. Top multiplier 10,000x.
  • Fireball: a ball drops into a grid of 149 pockets. A Regular pocket is your multiplier. A Double pocket doubles every Regular multiplier on the grid and the ball is launched again. Top multiplier 10,000x.
  • Lightning Storm: a billboard with eight Regular and three Global multipliers. Lightning strikes three times, and you pick strike 1, 2 or 3 before it starts. A strike adds up the Regular multipliers it stops on, and may multiply that sum by a Global one. Top multiplier 20,000x.

What a wheel multiplier changes

A wheel multiplier boosts that spot’s bonus game before it begins. Say 7 gets the Fireball symbol and a 5x multiplier: every Regular pocket on the Fireball grid is worth five times as much before the ball drops. In Hot Spot the whole wall is multiplied; in the other games the Regular multipliers are.

Storm Chaser and X Chaser

These two bets place chips for you. Storm Chaser covers every numbered spot that gets the Lightning Storm symbol in that spin; if you already had a bet there, the two are added together. X Chaser covers every numbered spot that gets a wheel multiplier. Evolution lists their cost as 2.7 times and 7.8 times your bet amount, so you need that much in your balance to place them.

The math behind Lightning Storm

The wheel has 39 segments, so every chance here is a count out of 39. The Leaf's return follows straight from its even money payout. The bonus bets' returns are Evolution's own figures, because the bonus multipliers change every round.

The Leaf return is exact

19 winning segments out of 39 at even money: $10 on the Leaf each spin for 39 spins costs $390 and pays back $380 on average, which is 97.44%.

A number has to pay big when it lands

Each number lands once in 39 spins. To return 95.13%, its bonus game has to pay back about 37 times your bet on average each time it hits. Most spins it loses; the return arrives in a few large wins.

About half the spins go to a bonus

20 of the 39 segments are numbered, so 51.28% of spins end in a bonus game, and the Leaf loses on all of them.

The payout cap matters for big bets

Wins above the maximum payout are cut. At the maximum bet, Evolution puts numbers at 93.65%, Storm Chaser at 93.03% and X Chaser at 93.06%.

Is there a Lightning Storm strategy?

No. The wheel, the bonus symbols and the multipliers are random, and earlier spins change nothing. The real choice is between the Leaf and the bonus bets.

Leaf or numbers

The Leaf costs 2.56% of what you bet over time; the numbers and both Chasers cost about 4.87%. On $1,000 of bets that is about $26 against about $49.

Picks inside the bonus games

In Hot Spot you choose a tile and in the Lightning Storm bonus you choose a strike, but you choose before the multipliers are revealed or the lightning strikes, so the pick is a guess.

Covering more numbers

Each extra number is its own bet at the same 95.13% return. It brings more bonus games, not a better price.

Lightning Storm FAQ

Can more than one number get a wheel multiplier?

Yes. At least one number gets a multiplier every spin, and others can too. Each multiplier only boosts the bonus game on its own number, so it pays nothing unless the wheel stops there.

Can a wheel multiplier push a bonus past 10,000x?

No. The multiplier is applied before the bonus game starts, and the bonus result is still capped at 10,000x, or 20,000x in the Lightning Storm bonus. Your total win in a round is also capped by the table’s maximum payout.

Can I watch a bonus game I did not bet on?

Yes. Every player sees each bonus game, but only players with a bet on the number that triggered it can win from it.

What happens if I lose my connection during a bonus game?

Your bets stay valid and are settled without you, and the result shows in your History when you return. If the studio has an error it cannot fix right away, the round is cancelled and bets are refunded; a malfunction voids the round and its payouts.
