Should you play it?

Live Craps rewards picking the right bets. Don't Pass returns 98.64% and Pass Line 98.59%, and the odds you add behind them pay true odds, so Evolution puts Don't Pass with equal Lay Odds at 99.17%. The one roll bets on the same table cost 5.56% to 16.67% of every bet, and Seven, at 83.33%, is the worst price in the game.

Play it if

  • You want bets with a house edge under 1.5%
  • You like a game where one point can run for several rolls
  • You are happy to learn a few bets and ignore the rest

Variance profile

Medium. It depends on your bets. Line, odds and place bets win close to half the time at short prices, while one roll bets win rarely and pay up to 30 to 1.

Every chance and return here is exact: two fair dice give 36 equally likely results. Returns on bets that run for several rolls count each bet placed until it settles, and a Don't bet returned on a 12 counts as paid back in full.

Evolution's 99.17% counts only Don't bets that win or lose, together with an equal Odds bet.

Pays shows the odds on a winning bet, with your stake returned on top: 7 to 6 means a $6 bet wins $7 and keeps the $6. RTP is the share of all money bet that comes back over a very long run; house edge is the rest. Neither predicts a single session.

How Live Craps works

Live Craps is Evolution's live version of the classic two dice game, hosted in a speakeasy themed studio. A dice launcher throws two dice against the far wall of the table, and you bet on the totals they show. An on screen guide called My Numbers shows what each total would pay you, and Easy Mode cuts the table down to the simpler bets.

1 Puck OFF

Come out roll

Bet Pass Line or Don't Pass. A 7 or 11 wins Pass Line, 2 or 3 wins Don't Pass, and a 12 loses Pass Line and returns Don't Pass.

2 4 to 10

A point is set

Any 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 becomes the point and the puck turns ON. Now you can add odds, Come bets and more.

3 Point or 7

Roll until it settles

The point rolling again wins Pass Line; a 7 first wins Don't Pass. Then a new come out roll starts.

How a round runs

Every roll has its own betting time, shown by a timer. When it ends, the launcher throws the dice and the total settles whatever it decides. The puck tells you the phase: OFF means the next roll is a come out roll, ON means a point is set and marked on the table. Pass Line and Don’t Pass can only be placed on a come out roll, and Come and Don’t Come only while a point is on. Everything else can be bet on any roll.

Why the odds bet matters

Once your Pass Line or Come bet has a point, you can back it with Take Odds; a Don’t Pass or Don’t Come bet takes Lay Odds. These pay the true odds of the point against a 7, so Evolution keeps nothing on them. Say you have $10 on Pass Line and the point is 6. Add $10 in odds, and if a 6 rolls before a 7 you win $10 on the line bet and $12 on the odds, plus both stakes back. Your Pass Line bet with equal odds returns 99.15% of what you stake on the two together.

Place bets: pick your own number

Place to Win backs one number to roll before a 7; Place to Lose bets on the 7 coming first. They work on any roll, and you choose the number instead of waiting for a point. Prices vary a lot: Place to Win on 6 or 8 pays 7 to 6 and returns 98.48%, while 4 or 10 pays 9 to 5 and returns 93.33%. A $6 bet on 6 wins $7.

Hardways and one roll bets

A Hardways bet wins only if the total rolls as a pair, such as 3 and 3 for hard 6, before a 7 or any other way to make that total. One roll bets settle on the very next roll and pay the most, up to 30 to 1 on Crap 2 or Crap 12, but they also carry the highest house edge in the game.

Help on screen

My Numbers lists every total from 2 to 12 with what you would win or lose on it, adding up all your bets, and you can bet straight from it. Keep Winning Bets, when switched on, leaves a winning bet in place for the next roll instead of returning it. Boards on the studio wall show how other players are betting in real time.

The math behind Live Craps

Two dice give 36 equally likely results: one way to roll 2 or 12, six ways to roll 7. Every price on the table follows from those counts.

The line bets are close to even

Pass Line wins 244 of every 495 bets, 49.29%. Don't Pass wins 47.93%, is returned 2.78% of the time on a come out 12, and loses the rest. That puts both within 1.41% of breaking even.

Odds lower the cost of the whole bet

The odds pay exactly what the point is worth: a 6 rolls before a 7 five times in eleven, and Take Odds on 6 pays 6 to 5. Add equal odds to Pass Line and the edge on the pair falls from 1.41% to 0.85%.

Place the 6 or 8, not the 4 or 10

A 6 beats a 7 five times in eleven, so 7 to 6 is close to fair and returns 98.48%. A 4 beats a 7 once in three; at 9 to 5 it returns 93.33%.

One roll bets pay short

Seven lands 6 times in 36, so a fair price would be 5 to 1. It pays 4 to 1, a return of 83.33%. Crap 2 lands once in 36 and pays 30 to 1 where 35 to 1 would be fair.

Is there a Live Craps strategy?

Dice have no memory, so no betting pattern or roll history changes your odds. Your real decision is which bets you make: the house edge runs from 1.36% to 16.67% on this one table.

Line bet plus odds

Pass Line or Don't Pass, backed with as much odds as you are comfortable with, is the cheapest way to play. Don't Pass edges Pass Line by a hair, so pick the side you enjoy.

Place bets on 6 and 8

If you want action on a number of your own, Place to Win 6 or 8 costs 1.52%, close to the line bets. The 4 and 10 cost more than four times as much.

Keep one roll bets small

Every one roll bet costs 5.56% or more, and Seven costs 16.67%. If you play them, treat them as the expensive extras they are.

Live Craps FAQ

Can I take a bet down after the point is set?

Not on Pass Line or Come: once their point is established they cannot be removed or moved. Don’t Pass and Don’t Come can be taken down but not increased once their point is set. Other bets can be moved or removed during betting time.

How much can I put on odds?

Up to a multiple of your line bet. The multiple is set by the table and shown in the Bet Limits panel, so check it before you play.

Can I stop my place bets and hardways from working for a while?

Yes. Turn Off Bets in the Craps menu switches off Place to Win, Place to Lose and Hardways either during come out rolls or for the next roll only. They start working again after that.

What happens to my bets if I disconnect or leave the table?

Bets on the current roll stay valid and are settled without you. After that, open bets are cancelled and refunded, but you get back only part of an open Pass Line or Come bet: 2/3 of it, or 80% at tables with auto cancellation. The same applies if you close the table or switch tables.

Does Easy Mode change the odds?

No. Easy Mode shows fewer bet spots but pays the same. You can switch to it whenever your only bets are Place to Win and one roll bets.

What if something goes wrong with a roll?

The round pauses while the host reports the problem. If it cannot be fixed straight away, the round is cancelled and bets are refunded. A malfunction voids all pays and play, and a wrongly recorded result is corrected.
