What happened to NYX Gaming Group
NYX Gaming Group no longer exists as its own company. If you searched for it expecting a live software brand, here is the honest position: NYX was bought by Scientific Games in a deal that completed in January 2018, folded into that company’s digital division, and the NYX name was retired. Four years later Scientific Games renamed itself Licht & Wunder. So the games NYX used to supply are still around, but the NYX brand is gone.
In its day NYX was a genuinely big supplier, not a game studio you played at but a business-to-business company whose software sat behind some of the largest names in online betting. It was formed in 2011 from the merger of the Australian slot studio NextGen Gaming, founded in 1999, and the Swedish supplier NYX Interactive, founded in 2006. It listed on the Toronto venture exchange, ran from Las Vegas, and grew fast by buying other suppliers. That growth is exactly what made it a target: Scientific Games paid roughly 631 million US dollars for it.

What NYX was
NYX made two kinds of thing. Through NextGen it published slots, titles such as Lightning Gems and Jackpot Jester, and it built the Open Gaming System, a platform that let a casino pull in games from NYX and from hundreds of other studios through a single connection. That aggregation platform, not any one slot, was its real product, and it is why NYX software sat behind operators like William Hill, Betsson and Bet365.
The other half was sports betting. In 2016 NYX bought OpenBet, one of the biggest sportsbook platforms in the world, handling the online betting of a long list of household bookmakers. For a couple of years NYX was a rare supplier that could offer a casino and a sportsbook engine from the same group, which is precisely what made it worth acquiring. It did virtual table games too, including blackjack and roulette, but slots, aggregation and sports were the business.
Where its games went, and where to play now
The NYX and NextGen catalogues did not disappear; they moved. They sit inside Licht & Wunder today, the company Scientific Games became, and the old NextGen slots are released under that name rather than their own. OpenBet took a different path: Light & Wonder sold it on, and after a further change of ownership it is an independent company again, no longer part of the group.
