Should you play it?

The free doubles and splits are real, but a dealer 22 turns every winning hand still in play into a push, and over time that takes back more than the free bets give. Worked out for these rules, the main bet costs more here than at Iconic21's classic tables.

Play it if

  • You like doubling and splitting without adding your own money
  • You never want to wait for a seat
  • You like a dealer who stands on soft 17

Variance profile

Medium. Free doubles and splits put extra money on the table at no cost to you, while dealer 22 pushes cancel some wins, so results swing a little more than at a classic table.

Basic strategy for this table

Worked out for these rules: 8 decks, dealer stands on soft 17, a free double on hard 9 to 11, a free split of every pair except tens, a dealer 22 pushes every hand still in play except a blackjack, no double after split, one split with one card to each split Ace, no surrender, and the dealer checks for blackjack only with an Ace up.

How Free Double & Split Blackjack works

1 Hard 9 to 11

Free Double

With a hard 9, 10 or 11 the house adds a bet equal to yours and you get one card. Win and both bets pay; lose and only your own bet goes.

2 Aces and 2s to 9s

Free Split

Split Aces or any pair from 2s to 9s and the house funds the second hand. If that hand loses it costs you nothing; tens split at your own cost.

3 Dealer 22

Push on 22

If the dealer finishes on exactly 22, every hand still in play pushes, except a blackjack, which still wins. Busted hands still lose.

Doubles and splits on the house

Free Double & Split Blackjack is Iconic21’s unlimited seat blackjack in which the house puts up the extra stake on the most common doubles and splits. With a hard 9, 10 or 11 you can double for free: the house adds a bet equal to yours, you get one card, and if the hand loses only your own bet goes. Aces and pairs from 2s to 9s split for free, with the house funding the second hand. The price is Push on 22: when the dealer finishes on exactly 22, every hand still in play pushes instead of winning, except a blackjack.

The rules

Eight decks, and the dealer stands on all 17s, soft 17 included. Other first two cards can be doubled at your own cost for one card, and tens split at your own cost. You split once, split Aces get one card each and cannot be hit, an Ace and a ten after a split counts as 21, and there is no double after a split and no surrender. Insurance costs half your bet when the dealer shows an Ace. The dealer checks the hole card only with an Ace up; with a 10 up, a dealer blackjack shows after everyone has acted and beats every hand but a blackjack. When a hand with a free bet pushes, only your own stake comes back.

Side bets

Four side bets are offered: Lucky 3, which pays when your two cards and the dealer’s up card total 19, 20 or 21 or make 777 or 678; Pairs; Poker 3; and Dealer Bust, which pays more the more cards the dealer busts with.
