Taxes on winnings
Licensed apps report qualifying wins to the IRS on a W-2G, so the income is documented whether you file for it or not. All gambling winnings are taxable federally (Tema 419 del IRS) and Michigan taxes them at its flat 4.25% individual income tax rate through the Department of Treasury. Michigan does let residents deduct gambling losses against winnings on the state return, which is more generous than most states.
Federally, from the 2026 tax year only 90% of gambling losses are deductible against winnings under the Ley «One Big Beautiful Bill»: break even at the tables and you can still owe federal tax. Offshore winnings come with no paperwork, so your own session log is the only record; the tax is owed regardless.
