Mississippi has been a casino state for over thirty years, with rows of them along the Gulf Coast and the Mississippi River. It legalized sports betting early too, right after the federal ban fell in 2018. So you might expect Mississippi to be an easy place to bet or play online. It is not.
The catch is a single word in the law: on-premises. You can bet on sports in Mississippi, but only inside a licensed casino, either at the counter or on a mobile app that works only while you are physically on casino property. Step off the property and the app stops. And the casinos’ games themselves, the slots and blackjack, have never been offered online here at all. Every attempt to open up statewide mobile betting has died in the legislature, most recently HB 1302, which cleared the House in early 2026 and then stalled in a Senate committee.
So a Mississippian who wants to bet from the couch, or play real-money slots or blackjack online, has no legal in-state way to do it. The offshore casinos below are what fills that gap.

Mississippi licenses land casinos and on-property sports betting but no online casino, so there is nothing state-regulated of that kind to recommend. The casinos above are offshore: they run from outside the US, mostly under Curacao or Panama licenses, and they accept Mississippi players because no Mississippi law reaches them.

Will you get in trouble for playing online from Mississippi?
Betting, gaming or wagering is an offense under Miss. Code 97-33-1, punishable by a fine of up to $500 per occurrence and, if unpaid, up to 90 days in jail. Running an unlicensed gambling operation is a more serious offense under the same chapter; the regulated casino industry operates under the separate Gaming Control Act. The Mississippi Gaming Commission and the Attorney General enforce against illegal operators, while the licensed casinos run legally. There is no record of Mississippi prosecuting a person for playing at an offshore online casino. Federal law is aimed the same way, since the UIGEA targets gambling businesses and payment processors, not players.

Taxes on winnings in Mississippi
Offshore casinos send no tax forms, but the winnings are still income. The IRS treats every dollar as taxable whether or not a W-2G exists (Rubrique 419 de l'IRS), and Mississippi taxes it again through its flat income tax, which sits at 4.4% for 2026 and is scheduled to keep dropping toward 4% (Mississippi Department of Revenue). There is a Mississippi quirk to know: the state’s own casinos withhold a flat 3% gaming tax on certain winnings that you cannot get refunded, but that applies to play inside Mississippi casinos, not to offshore winnings, which fall under the ordinary income tax instead.
On losses, federal law tightened in 2026. Under the Loi « One Big Beautiful Bill », only 90% of gambling losses are deductible federally, capped at your winnings. Win $10,000 and lose $10,000 and you can still owe tax on $1,000. Repeal bills are pending, but the 90% rule governs 2026.
The takeaway: keep session records. Dates, deposits, withdrawals, results. With no casino paperwork coming, your own log is the only paper trail you will have.
Getting money in and out from Mississippi
