Instant EFT Casinos

The short version

Instant EFT is a South African way to pay a website straight from your bank account. You do not need a card, an app to top up, or a crypto wallet. At the checkout you are handed to your own bank's login page, you approve the payment, and the money is confirmed to the merchant in seconds.

None of the casinos we review take Instant EFT. It is a local South African rail that a site has to plug into from inside the country, and the international casinos we list do not run that integration. What they do run, for South African players, is the South African rand and the methods that work alongside it: bank transfer, Skrill and Neteller, Visa and Mastercard, and Bitcoin. Those are the routes to use, and they are listed lower down.

What Instant EFT actually is

Instant EFT is a real time bank transfer. A normal EFT can take a day or two to clear. Instant EFT sits on top of your online banking, fills in the payment details for you, and tells the shop the money is on the way the moment you approve it, so you can start straight away.

It is not a single brand. It is a service offered by a handful of payment gateways, and the one you see depends on which gateway the shop signed up with. The main ones in South Africa are:

• Ozow, the market leader for account to account payments in South Africa. It was called i-Pay until April 2019.
• SiD Secure EFT, the older name in the market, often chosen for larger payments.
• PayFast and Netcash, which offer Instant EFT alongside their other checkout options.

All of them work the same way for you as the payer, and all of them support the big South African banks, including FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Absa and Capitec.

How a payment goes through

1. You pick Instant EFT at the checkout and choose your bank.
2. You are sent to a secure page that mirrors your bank's login.
3. You log in with your usual online banking details and approve the payment, normally with a one time code from your bank.
4. The gateway confirms the payment to the shop within seconds.

Because you approve it yourself inside your bank, the payment cannot be reversed like a card charge can. That makes it safe for the merchant, but it also means there is no chargeback if something goes wrong, so only use it with sites you trust.

Why the casinos we review do not offer it

Instant EFT is built for South African businesses paying into South African bank accounts. To accept it, a casino has to be set up as a local merchant with one of the gateways above. The casinos we review are international operators. They welcome South African players and take the rand, but they collect money through global rails, not a local South African one.

Deposits and withdrawals

Instant EFT is a deposit method. It is a payment you push out from your bank, so it moves money in one direction, into the shop. That is why this page is marked deposits only.

Getting paid works differently. When a South African site says it pays out by Instant EFT, what it really sends is an ordinary bank transfer to your account, which usually lands in 2 to 24 hours on a weekday. So even where Instant EFT is offered, your winnings come back as a plain EFT. At the casinos we review you would choose your payout route separately, and an e-wallet or Bitcoin will almost always be quicker than a bank transfer.
