Online sports betting is legal through provincially licensed bookmakers, but online casino games are not: playing slots, blackjack or roulette at an online casino is prohibited under the National Gambling Act, and the state can and does confiscate winnings. This is the one market we cover where the honest answer is yes, there is a real risk, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Participating in online casino play is prohibited under the National Gambling Act, and the enforcement that actually happens is financial: the National Gambling Board obtains High Court orders forfeiting unlawful winnings to the state, and has done so for millions of rand. Prosecutions of individual players are not something we could find evidence of, but the offence exists and the forfeiture is real and current. On top of the legal risk, nothing about being offshore obliges a casino to pay you at all, which is why our ratings are built only on casinos we have cashed out from ourselves.
