Polkadot was founded by Gavin Wood, one of the co-founders of Ethereum. The project launched its mainnet in 2020. Its core purpose is interoperability between blockchains: Polkadot is designed to let different blockchain networks communicate and share data with each other, which is the problem its architecture is built to solve.
The Polkadot network consists of a central Relay Chain that handles security and consensus, plus individual "parachains" that are separate blockchains running in parallel and connected to the Relay Chain. DOT, the native token, has three main uses on the network: governance (DOT holders vote on network decisions), bonding (locking DOT to secure parachain slots), and staking (validators and nominators stake DOT to participate in the consensus mechanism).
For casino use, DOT is simply a cryptocurrency you send from your wallet to the casino's address. The cross-chain technical architecture doesn't factor into basic transactions.
