PromptPay works in both directions: money in and winnings back out by the same route. Here is where it works best.

PromptPay is Thailand's national instant payment system, and for Thai players who gamble at online casinos, it's the most practical way to move money. You don't need to enter card details or set up a separate e-wallet account. A transfer from your bank app using a mobile number, national ID, or QR code is all it takes. The money moves instantly.
The context worth knowing upfront: online gambling is illegal in Thailand under domestic law, which means the casinos Thai players use are offshore operators. Thai banks are aware of this, and some will block or query transfers they identify as gambling-related. That's the main practical friction with PromptPay at casinos, and it's worth understanding before you start.

PromptPay was launched by the Bank of Thailand and the Thai Bankers' Association in January 2017. The goal was to reduce the country's dependence on cash and cheques by providing a universal real-time transfer system that works across all participating banks.
The system works by linking a PromptPay ID (your mobile number, 13-digit national ID number, or Tax ID for businesses) to your bank account. Once linked, anyone who has your PromptPay ID can send money directly to your account without needing your full bank account number.
All major Thai banks participate in PromptPay, including Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank (KBank), Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya), Krungthai Bank, Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), and TMBThanachart Bank (ttb). This near-universal participation means that for Thai players, PromptPay is built into whatever banking app they already use.
PromptPay QR codes extend the system to retail and online payments. A merchant or casino can generate a QR code that, when scanned in your banking app, pre-fills the payment details. You confirm, and the transfer is instant.

The deposit process at casinos using PromptPay is a direct bank transfer. The casino provides a PromptPay ID or QR code, and you complete the payment from your bank app.
Withdrawals work by the casino sending a PromptPay transfer directly to your registered PromptPay ID. You provide your PromptPay ID (usually your mobile number or national ID) in the casino's withdrawal section. Processing time varies by casino, from near-instant automated systems to several hours with manual review. Once the casino initiates the transfer, your bank account is credited instantly via PromptPay.
Some casinos require you to have deposited via PromptPay before allowing a PromptPay withdrawal. Check the casino's withdrawal policy before depositing if this matters to you.
Online gambling is illegal in Thailand under the Gambling Act B.E. 2478 (1935) and subsequent legislation. The law covers most forms of gambling, and there is no licensed domestic online casino market. Thai players who gamble online are using offshore operators, typically licensed in Curaçao, Malta, or the Isle of Man.
Thai law targets operators more than individual players, and prosecutions of individual gamblers are relatively rare. However, the illegality of online gambling in Thailand has a practical consequence for payments: Thai banks are aware of gambling-related transactions and some will block transfers to known gambling operators or flag accounts with repeated gambling-related activity.
Players in Thailand should also be aware that some casinos restrict access based on the player's registered country, as the casino's own licence terms may prohibit serving players from jurisdictions where gambling is illegal.
All major Thai banks participate in PromptPay as an interbank transfer system. However, individual banks have different policies on gambling-related transactions. Some apply restrictions or blocks, others don't. Bangkok Bank, KBank, SCB, and Krungthai all support PromptPay transfers, but the casino receiving end determines whether your transfer goes through without issue.
A PromptPay ID is the identifier linked to your bank account on the PromptPay system. It's usually your Thai mobile number or 13-digit national ID number. You would have registered it when you set up PromptPay through your bank app. Check your bank app's PromptPay settings to see which ID is registered to your account. This is the ID you give the casino when requesting a withdrawal.
Your bank app will show the transfer as completed almost immediately. The casino's side is where the delay can occur. Casinos using automated verification credit deposits quickly after you upload the payment slip (or automatically if they have real-time confirmation). If your balance hasn't updated within 30 minutes, contact the casino's support team and provide your transfer slip.
PromptPay transfer limits depend on your bank and account type. Standard personal accounts typically allow up to THB 5,000 per transaction at the basic tier, with higher limits available if you've completed full account verification with your bank. For casino deposits, the casino's own minimum and maximum deposit rules also apply, independently of the PromptPay limits.
It is possible. Thai banks have anti-money-laundering monitoring systems that flag unusual patterns. Repeated large transfers to the same recipient (particularly if it's flagged as a gambling merchant) can result in transaction blocks or temporary account holds. The risk is higher with large volumes of transfers. Some Thai players use lower individual transfer amounts and vary the timing to reduce visibility, though this is not a guaranteed workaround.
PromptPay is the most practical payment method available to Thai casino players right now. It uses the banking infrastructure you already have, transfers are instant, and both deposits and withdrawals are supported at casinos that accept it. The process is simple once you're set up: scan a QR code or enter a PromptPay ID in your bank app, confirm, and the transfer is done.
The context around online gambling in Thailand is important to understand. The offshore casinos Thai players use operate outside Thai law, and some Thai banks actively monitor for gambling-related payments. That's the main risk to be aware of before using PromptPay heavily for casino deposits.
Counts are casinos open to you, not the global total.
