Max Rubin's Blackjack Ball
I'm headed to Las Vegas for New Years, and while in town I'll be attending the 9th Annual Blackjack Ball. The Ball is an annual
gathering put on by Max Rubin (author of Comp City, commentator for GSN's World Series of Blackjack). He invites a few dozen of
the best and brightest in the blackjack world to a secret location in Las Vegas for a night of competition and comradery.
You can read about previous years events in these two articles:
Max Rubin's The World's Best Blackjack Player, from Casino Player magazine.
Michael Konik's The Twenty-One Club, from Cigar Afficionado magazine.
Also at the event, two more nominees will be voted into the Blackjack Hall of Fame. You can cast your vote at
the Hall of Fame voting site, where you can read bios of this year's nominees. (Site and link no longer available.)
The winners of the public vote will receive one vote each in the official balloting held at the Blackjack Ball.
GSN's World Series of Blackjack II
At the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, early November saw a week-long flurry of activity during filming of the second season of GSN's
World Series of Blackjack. Forty players competed for half a million dollars in prize money, and the results will air as a 13-episode
series on the cable network. The first season featured exciting finishes in every show, but I think this year's shows will be even better.
You won't have to wait long to get started. The series begins on GSN Friday January 21st, 2005 at 10 PM Eastern. Be sure to catch the first show
which features Katya Underhill, Joe Pane, Hollywood Dave Stann, Kevin Blackwood and Rene Angelil. I've never seen better tournament play than you'll see
at that table.
My own preliminary table in the event airs on week two, Friday Jan 28th at 10 PM Eastern.
You can find a full listing of all the dates and times of the shows, and a list of the competitors each week on BlackjackTournaments.com.

Blackjack Forum is back!
Many in the blackjack community were dismayed when Blackjack Forum magazine joined the growing list of defunct blackjack publications.
Thus it's really nice to be able to report that Arnold Snyder's insightful magazine is back.
And, better yet, it's now free. Snyder is now producing the magazine online instead of as a print publication. The first online issue
includes a very detailed article about the recent James Grosjean/Imperial Palace trial. Check it out:

Hilton finals on Travel Channel? Maybe.
The finals and semifinals of the Las Vegas Hilton Million Dollar Blackjack II tournament were filmed for the Travel Channel way
back in May 2004. Yet, until recently, there's been no word on when or if they would be televised. While information is still sketchy,
I think they'll be aired next week.
A look at the upcoming Travel Channel schedule shows the following items:
Wednesday Jan 5th, 2005, 8 PM (and again at 11 PM) Eastern: "Travel Channel Secrets: Million Dollar Blackjack Tournament"
Thursday Jan 6th, 2005, 6 PM Eastern time: "Million Dollar Blackjack Tournament"
I think the Wednesday shows are a rerun of MDBJ1. However, the Thursday show doesn't appear the same in the listings, so I'm hoping it
will be the premiere of MDBJ2. I guess we'll just have to tune in to find out.
$15K online tournament, Jan 1st - 4th
Betcom is an online casino and sportsbook. From Jan 1st to Jan 4th they're
having a "$15,000 Blackjack Bowl" tournament, with a $50 entry fee. Entries prior to January 1st also get two entries for
the price of one. I competed in their last event, and I can definitely recommend this event as well worth the entry fee.
I made it to the finals last time around, and I hope to do so again. Look for 'ken21' in the standings.
Full details are available at Betcom.
Casino Verite now available at BJInfo
A recent addition to the store at BlackjackInfo.com is excellent blackjack
practice and simulation software called Casino Verite. It's the most realistic practice software available.
Check it out.
That's it for now. Best of luck, online and off! -Ken-
