European Blackjack

Дилер бере відсутність закритої карти, а друга карта видається лише після того, як ви закінчите свою гру. Це може здатися лише косметичною зміною, але це не так, оскільки в разі блекджека у дилера він забирає також ваші ставки на подвоєння та розділення.

European blackjack is defined by one structural difference from the American game: the dealer takes відсутність закритої карти. Only one dealer card is on the table while you play, and the second arrives after you have finished every hand. That sounds cosmetic. It is not, and the reason is what happens to your doubled and split bets when that second card turns out to be an ace or a ten.

The game above is our own practice table, dealing European rules on practice credits in your browser. No account, no download, works everywhere. Crucially it enforces the no-hole-card rule properly: double or split, and if the dealer’s second card completes a blackjack, you lose all of it. That is a lesson worth learning for free rather than for money.

What “no hole card” actually costs

In the American game the dealer peeks at a face-down card and the hand ends immediately if it is a blackjack, so you lose only your original bet. With no hole card there is nothing to peek at: you double or split first, and if the dealer’s second card completes a blackjack afterwards, you lose everything you put out, doubles and splits included. That is exactly what the game above states, and it is the rule that makes European blackjack more expensive than it looks.

Priced by our двигун стратегії with everything else held equal, the missing hole card is worth about 0.11% to the house. The version above lands at 0.64%, against 0.44% for a good six-deck American game with full doubling.

How it changes your play

The strategy adjustment is narrow but real, and it is all about the dealer’s ten and ace. Because a dealer blackjack will take your extra money too, the plays you would make against those upcards in the American game become more expensive here: doubling into a dealer ten or ace, and splitting into them, carry a risk that simply does not exist at a peeking table. Against every other upcard, play the standard chart for the deck count and soft 17 rule. Set our strategy engine to six decks with no peek to generate the exact chart, and match the doubling restriction to whatever the table in front of you allows.

Where you will meet it

No hole card is standard across much of Europe and appears in plenty of online games regardless of what they are called, so the label on the lobby tile matters less than the rules panel. Two things are worth checking on any table that advertises itself as European: whether the dealer stands on soft 17, and whether doubling is restricted, since both move the price more than the name does. For the wider comparison of deck counts and rules, our double deck page shows what the same rules cost across shoe sizes.

ПОШИРЕНІ ЗАПИТАННЯ

What makes blackjack "European"?

The dealer takes no hole card. Only one dealer card is dealt while you play, and the second arrives after every player hand is finished, so nothing is checked for blackjack before you act.

Why does no hole card matter?

Because you commit money before the dealer’s hand is known. If the dealer completes a blackjack afterwards, you lose your whole stake including anything added by doubling or splitting, where a peeking table would only take your original bet. That is worth about 0.11% to the house.

Should I play differently in European blackjack?

Slightly, and only against a dealer ten or ace: doubling and splitting into those upcards costs more here because a dealer blackjack takes the extra money too. Against every other upcard, the standard chart for the deck count and soft 17 rule applies.

What is the house edge in European blackjack?

It depends on the table, not the label. The free game on this page, six decks with a standing soft 17 and doubling restricted to 9 through 11, prices at about 0.64% on our engine, against 0.44% for a good six-deck American game.
